Local Author Hosting Book Signing at Chaucer’s Books June 14th

June 14, 2017 @ 7:00 am PDT

Mercury Press International is pleased to share our latest title, Rise Up: A Stilter’s Adventures in Higher Consciousness, by environmental champion and local author Marc McGinnes. It’s just launched and is now available on local bookshelves at Chaucer’s Books, The Book Den, the UCSB Bookstore, and Tecolote Book Shop, as well as on Amazon. (Photo by Mercury Press International)

Marc shares the perspective he discovered after falling in love with stilting in 1975. He’s performed in the Summer Solstice Parade on stilts since the beginning. “In Rise Up I talk about the uplifting joy I have received and imparted over the past 40 years, when I’ve risen up to play in the Summer Solstice Parade and to do my work in higher education at UCSB and in the County Courthouse and in City Hall. The book also features the work of local photographers, and includes brief passages written by friends and family who are members of the local stilting and performing arts community.”

The book is also available from both the Community Environmental Council (CEC) and the Environmental Defense Center (EDC), to support their important environmental sustainability and protection work. During the upcoming Summer Solstice Celebration and Parade events on June 23, 24 and 25, copies of Rise Up will be available from the Summer Solstice Celebration tables at Alameda Park and along the parade route, with all profits from sales going to those organizations.

“My work and play on stilts is an expression of my gratitude,” Marc shared, “for the blessings in abundance that have come my way in our community. In that spirit, I offer up this little book in the hope that others may find some joy and light in it.”
