IN & OUT Series by Bill Dalziel

January 10, 2023 @ 7:30 am - January 31, 2023 @ 5:00 am PST

When asked to describe his art Dalziel says, “I’ve learned to use optical illusion to confound minds and subvert tradition.” His revolutionary attitude is an apt description of the exhibit called simply > In & Out Series. But it’s not just in and out. And it’s not about burgers. Painting in a trompe l’oeil tradition, “To trick the eye and entertain the mind,” he says with a wink. The exhibit is highlighted by being integrated within a working business. In & Out Series becomes an enjoyable site-specific experience as the paintings off-set (all puns intended) and complement…how the art intersects with the tools of the trade at Tri-Co. These mesmerizing canvases were created in the ‘90s. All are for sale.
Dalziel’s art and design influences have a soundtrack, coming from many varied sources – artists like M.C. Escher, Paul Cezanne, Pablo Picasso mixed with the Cubism of Juan Gris and George Braque, and stirred up by Central African sculpture.
Most recently, Bill had a book signing to debut his children’s book “Charlie’s Dream.” Charlie is a very clever Eastern Blue Jay who was in the first book too “Ulma, the Kidnapped Tree.” An American Elm tree is the central figure and she has a lot to teach us. Ulma can be found living happily in Santa Barbara – the location is revealed in his books. (For sale at Tecolote Books and Chaucer’s locally, as well as on Amazon.) Get both for your child’s library.
Dalziel is a connoisseur of many things, a true Renaissance man. He cites his many professional achievements as well as his entrepreneurial endeavors with humility. Author, illustrator, writer, painter, sculptor, restauranteur, TV & film producer, designer of sets for TV and stage, architectural & furniture designer, real estate developer, graphic artist, Mason, member of Screen Actors Guild, E.M.T./L.A. County, builder and licensed contractor, inventor, engineer, U.S. Marine, Father of four, and a sailor on a racing yacht.

THANKS to Tri-Co Reprographics for this exhibition. The company has been blueprinting and managing digital documents for Central Coast architects and contractors for more than 30 years. Building design and construction is a niche industry requiring specialized knowledge and language that is typically attained by work experience.
