I AND THOU: LIVING AUTHENTICALLY WITH SELF AND OTHER

August 18, 2017 @ 5:30 am - August 20, 2017 @ 12:00 pm PDT

It is only when we can be present in our lives Here and Now that we can meet others and our world with a truly open heart and mind.  The ability to be more aware in the present moment gives us greater freedom from our personal history and greater choice in what is yet to come. In this silent retreat grounded in Buddhist mindfulness practice, we will explore what it means to be truly present. We will practice learning to pause: deliberately stopping in the midst of a busy mind to listen to ourselves deeply. We will learn to bring kind attention and compassion to the thoughts and feelings arising and passing away in constant flow. And we will explore how to apply this increased compassionate and mindful awareness to the challenges of daily life. The practice of being aware in the present moment is the foundation of a sense of inner happiness and refuge, helping us be more skillful in our relationships.

Marjorie Schuman, PhD, licensed clinical psychologist specializing in mindfulness-informed psychodynamic/relational psychotherapy, is currently in private practice in Santa Barbara.
