Headless Household, Santa Barbara’s shamelessly eclectic and seemingly demise-resistant outfit—hard to categorize but easy to love—strikes up the band once more in 2017, Tuesday, November 28 at SOhO. With nine albums out (all on the in-house Household Ink label) and at least that many genres on the menu, the Household offers a fresh, garage-to-venue musical experience unlike any other in the greater Santa Barbara area, or the known universe. Or maybe like a whole bunch of experiences, converging into a happy mash-up.
This gig, with the usual suspects Dick Dunlap (keys) Tom Lackner (drums, etceteras), Joe Woodard (guitar), Tom Buckner (tenor saxophone), and the usual suspect list of possible guests tba, is special for its featured bass chair visitor, Santa Barbara’s legendary Randy Tico, in his first gig with the band. The evening is also the band’s first bill-sharing encounter with the new-ish “IndieBossaJazzTwang” group Lucinda Lane, featuring Nicole Lvoff as lovely chanteuse.
The Headless Household albumography: Headless Household (1987; vinyl), Inside/Outside USA (1993), ITEMS (1995), Free Associations (1999), mockhausen (2000), post-Polka (2003), Blur Joan (2005), and Basemento (2010), Balladismo (2015), ????? tba (2018) (?).
Consider the SOhO show a pre-Christmas, “so long to the strange landscape of 2017” soiree, Headless Household-style.
