FUN COLLABORATION BETWEEN ADAMS KINDERGARTEN AND SANTA BARBARA HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

April 8 @ 9:30 am - 10:30 am PDT

“MONSTERS” DRAWN BY ADAMS KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS AND CREATED INTO PUPPETS BY SANTA BARBARA HIGH SCHOOL SOFT-SCULPTURE CLASS

I would like to make you aware of a very special puppet show at the Santa Barbara High School auditorium on Monday, April 8, between 9:30 and 10:30 am.

This collaboration involves my kindergarten students at Adams Elementary School and a high school art class taught by Kat Ross. Each of my students drew a “monster,” and the students in the soft sculpture class created puppets according to the kindergarteners’ drawings. The high school students also built a puppet stage for the performance.

This establishes an exciting connection between kindergarten and high school students. The high school students bring to life the kindergarteners’ plans, and the kindergarteners get to be part of the process of planning, design, and outcome.

As a Santa Barbara High School alum, this project holds a special place in my heart!

This project is partially funded by a Santa Barbara Education Foundation grant written by Elizabeth Brooks.
