Fringe Theatre Company Presents American Workshop of New Play

Roaming Theatre Collaborative will present an American workshop reading of a new play, I and the Village at the Community Arts Workshop on November 1st and 2nd. The new play, written by playwright Silva Semerciyan and directed by SB local Katie Williams, explores the good intentions and idiosyncrasies of a typical small Midwestern town in the lead up to and fallout of a young woman struggling to find herself. A commentary on both small town America as well as the US’s devotion to guns, the show promises to be as incisive as it is empathetic.

Roaming, founded by five young Santa Barbara artists working in various corners of the theatre community, has been producing fresh theatre in alternative spaces in Santa Barbara for just over a year. Their timing in producing I and the Village is deliberate; the show presents just one week shy of the Borderline shooting anniversary in Thousand Oaks. “We’d like to start a conversation, not just about guns, but about the conditions that allows gun violence to happen,” said Luz Lorenzana Twigg, producer. “I hope our SB audience can identify with the difficulty of fitting into a small town and the feeling of being the odd one out,” commented Karen Baltzley actor, and producer.

Roaming Theatre Collaborative creates provocative theatre and performance that engages with and explores the socio-political climate in America. With a focus on original and adapted works, RTC is committed to producing inclusive fringe works that challenge their audiences’ worldviews.

Friday, November 1st and Saturday, November 2nd at 7pm.
