Exploring the Gaviota Coast

Thursday, August 16th, 6:30PM
Faulkner Gallery – Santa Barbara Public Library
40 East Anapamu St., Santa Barbara, CA

Join former California State Parks ranger and Gaviota Coast Conservancy charter member Mike Lunsford as shares some of his favorite hikes along the coast, ranging from Gaviota State Park to Goleta, as well as how to find the different coastal access spot along Highway 101.

Mike served as a park ranger on the Gaviota Coast for more than 20 years and helped build the network of trails within Gaviota State Park. He has served on the board of the Santa Barbara Trails Council and is the past president of the Gaviota Coast Conservancy, which works to preserve this unique stretch of coastline where the mountains meet the sea.

The talk is FREE and part of the ongoing Wilderness Hiking Speaker Series hosted by the Santa Barbara Public Library. The talks are the third Thursday of the month and feature topics related to hiking, backpacking, and our local natural history.

The next talk in the series is Thursday, September 20th, Tracking Secrets with Jim Lowery. Jim is the author of The Tracker’s Field Guide and has taught tracking skills to thousands of students through his school, Earth Skills.
