Evenings by State Street Ballet

Seven short world premieres choreographed by the dancers of State Street Ballet will be performed at the company’s Santa Barbara studio space at 7:30pm Friday and Saturday, November 1 and 2.

State Street Ballet’s EVENINGS productions were developed to give the dancers a forum to explore their own unique voices within the dance world, giving them an opportunity to express their visions in a comfortable, collaborative and intimate setting. The performances take place at the Gail Towbes Center for Dance, the company’s rehearsal studios, allowing audiences the rare experience to view the dances up close and personally, while learning about the creative process. The dancer-choreographers are encouraged to experiment with different movement styles, thematic structures, and music choices, and to use the studio space creatively. The results are always exciting and inspiring, and audiences have come to expect the unexpected.

Associate Director Leila Drake shares, “As a dancer, and now as Associate Director, I know firsthand that offering these opportunities to evolve creatively as an artist can be very liberating and fulfilling. Individuality, unique expression and evolution are at the foundation of what we do here at State Street Ballet, and we delight in offering a program such as this, especially during our 25th Anniversary Season, that adds to our “something for everyone” mission.”

This season’s choreographers include: Tanner Blee, Anna Carnes, James Folsom, Amara Galloway, Courtney Hanaway, Arianna Hartanov, and Ahna Lipchik.

With lower priced tickets, a relatively shorter program length, approximately 45-minutes total, and a short Q&A, EVENINGS is the opportunity for all to experience dance in a more accessible, casual, and social atmosphere. Local wines and light snacks will be available. Seating is limited, advance ticket purchase is recommended.
