CommUNITY Yoga Project: Yoga for Black Lives
The CommUNITY Yoga Project:
Yoga for Black Lives
A coalition of yoga studios in Santa Barbara is hosting an all-day yoga festival in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. This event, titled The CommUNITY Yoga Project: Yoga for Black Lives is a hybrid virtual and outdoor experience that invites attendees to dig deeper into the realities of racial injustice and mobilize for lasting social change. This event will take place on October 25, 2020 both online and in-person at La Mesa Park in Santa Barbara, CA.
The CommUNITY Yoga Project: Yoga for Black Lives consists of 8 classes over the course of the day hosted by 5 Santa Barbara yoga studios. Classes will offer a variety of experiences with the intention of embodying the internal and external work it takes to create a more equitable world.
Most importantly, there will be 3 social justice workshops facilitated by local Black leaders highlighting the ways we, as a community, can cultivate lasting change. Facilitators of these workshops include Simone Ruskamp and Krystle Farmer Sieghart of Healing Justice Santa Barbara, and Warren Ritter of Santa Barbara Young Black Professionals.
For a $30 minimum donation, event participants will receive admission to all 11 classes and workshops.
All proceeds for The CommUNITY Yoga Project will be donated to the festival’s co-collaborators - Santa Barbara Young Black Professionals and Santa Barbara Healing Justice - to support their organizing and advocacy work within our local community.
Participating studios include Divinitree Yoga Studio, Yoga Soup, Santa Barbara Yoga Center, Santa Barbara Yoga Collective, Santa Barbara Beach Yoga, and Corepower. All in-person activities will be socially-distanced and will abide by CDC guidelines.
