The City of Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation Department will host a second public meeting to discuss upcoming improvements at the Douglas Family Preserve. The Department aims to balance the open space park’s mix of recreational uses with the need to preserve the area’s natural resources, including native vegetation and wildlife.
Parks and Recreation and Fire Department staff will discuss vegetation management and trail work scheduled for this fall. Planned vegetation management includes clearing understory tree litter, removing invasive species, trimming vegetation along trails, and removing hazardous standing deadwood. Trail work will include drainage and tread improvements and assessing the trail network to balance usage with habitat preservation, site access, safety, and resiliency.
