The Choral Society will close out its 2024-25 Season and the 77th year of the organization on Sunday, June 1 (3pm), at Trinity Lutheran Church in Santa Barbara. With a tapestry of favorite songs and challenging new pieces curated by Artistic Director/ Conductor JoAnne Wasserman, audiences will enjoy a range and complexity of musical selections from the likes of Maurice Durufle, Morten Lauridsen, and John Tavener, to Mozart’s Solemn Vespers.
The concert includes Kenyan and Tazanian folk music and a piece, “O Lasko, Lasko” that the choral group first sang on tour in Hungary and the Czech Republic in 2005. The acoustics of the venue are particularly well-suited to the concert’s piano-only format, and the singers will be ably accompanied by Kevin Su Fukagawa, who joined the Choral Society staff this season and quickly established himself as an outstanding musician who masterfully manages the complexity of accompanying multiple voice parts in great choral masterworks.
Attendees are invited to join the chorus, staff, and board for a closing celebration in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the concert. One performance only. June 1, at 3:00 pm. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 909 N. La Cumbre Rd., Santa Barbara. Tickets are $10-$30 and include the post-concert reception.
For tickets: sbchoral.org or at the door.
