Chaucer’s Books 50th Birthday Bash

Chaucer’s Books, Santa Barbara’s beloved local independent bookstore, is thrilled to announce its 50th anniversary celebration on Friday, November 1 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Join us for an evening of celebration and community as we honor five decades of stories, community, and literary adventures.

The event will feature special guests, including our founder, Mahri Kerley, who will be feted not only for their leadership at the store, but also for their 80th birthday. At 5:30 PM, attendees will be treated to inspiring words from our founder, co-owners, and special guests. As well, the two
winners of the “Tell Us Your Story” contest will read their works, highlighting the magic of storytelling that has been a cornerstone of the bookstore’s legacy.

To mark this milestone, the Quire of Voyces will lead us in a rendition of “Happy Birthday” and other songs, inviting all attendees to sing along and share in the celebration.

In addition to the heartfelt speeches, guests can indulge in a delightful assortment of cookies and cupcakes while enjoying face painting and coloring activities for all ages.

Per tradition, the store’s annual anniversary sale will also be taking place at this time. Everything* in the store will be 20% off during the event. This is the perfect opportunity to pick up that book you’ve had your eye on or discover something new!
