About the Mentor Program
Now in its 18th year, the Mentor Program matches Santa Barbara County at-risk youth enrolled in third through eighth grades with caring adult volunteer mentors. Mentors spend at least one hour per week with their Mentee encouraging personal growth, self-esteem, academic performance, and healthy family dynamics. The preventive program has demonstrated strong success at deterring risky behaviors and promoting positive behaviors of Mentees, who are referred to CADA by school counselors, psychologists, and other administrators. Currently, the program has 80 Mentor-Mentee matches, many of which will continue beyond high school graduation and become life-long friendships.

For more information about the Golf Classic, becoming a Mentor or being referred as a Mentee, contact Mentor Program Director Lisa Gosdschan at 805.722.1321, lgosdschan@cadasb.org.

According to CADA’s Executive Director Scott Whiteley, Ph.D., “Regular connection with a caring, attentive adult mentor can help a child or teen learn to navigate challenges, avoid negative influences and risky behaviors, and develop personal and academic confidence. Requests for mentors is greater than ever and community support of our Golf Classic will help us meet this critical need.”
