Booker T. Jones

EARL MINNIS PRESENTS and Lobero Theatre Foundation present Booker T. Jones on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at 7:30 PM. Jones is an American multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, record producer, and arranger. Best known as the frontman of the legendary band Booker T. & the MGs, he has worked with countless award-winning artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. The iconic artist is a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Musicians Hall of Fame inductee, GRAMMY® Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, and arguably the most famous Hammond B3 player in history.

As leader of Booker T. & the MGs, this pillar of soul music collaborated with Otis Redding, Albert King, Eddie Floyd and Sam and Dave during his tenure at the renowned Stax Records label. It can be argued that it was Jones who set the cast for modern soul music and is largely responsible for its rise and enduring popularity. He pushed the music’s boundaries with his hits on Stax, refined it to its essence, and then injected it into the nation’s bloodstream. Outside of the band, Jones made the charts as a solo artist and produced albums for Rita Coolidge, Bill Withers, Willie Nelson’s Stardust and more, and lent his trademark keyboards to many artists ranging in genre from Ray Charles to Neil Young.

In addition, Booker won GRAMMY® Awards for Best Pop Instrumental Album for his 2009 solo album Potato Hole, which features guests Neil Young and Drive-By Truckers, and his 2011 solo release The Road From Memphis, where he is backed by the hip hop band The Roots. Later, in 2013, Booker released Sound The Alarm, marking a return to Stax Records after 30 years. In 2019, Booker released his iconic memoir Time is Tight: My Life, Note by Note on Little, Brown and Company, along with an accompanying record titled Note by Note. He continues to record and tour internationally, both as a solo artist and as head of the Booker T’s Stax Revue.
