Guitarist, singer, and songwriter Alastair Greene has a long history of performing music in the sunny seaside hamlet of Santa Barbara, CA.
Born at Cottage Hospital in 1971, Alastair has lived in and been playing the Santa Barbara area since the late 80s and continues to do so since his move to Austin, TX in 2022.
Alastair is a graduate of Santa Barbara High School and helped form the hard rock band Scarecrow after his return from The Berklee College of music in 1992. He formed the Alastair Greene Band in 1999 with Tom Lacker (drums) and the late Jack Kennedy (bass) who both were former members of the legendary Santa Barbara blues band, The Pontiax. He was inspired to pursue a career as a blues rock musician after listening to records by Johnny Winter, The Allman Brothers, BB King, Buddy Guy, and Stevie Ray Vaughan.
In addition to his own band, Greene has also performed with Santa Barbara bands such as The Bomb, Claude Hopper, Morganfield Burnett, Little Al Vafa, Mike Dawson and many others. He used to perform regularly at Cold Springs Tavern (often sitting in with Tom Ball and Kenny Sultan) in addition to playing all of the Santa Barbara bars, clubs, and theaters as well as a performance at the Santa Barbara Bowl opening for Jonny Lang in 2004. Alastair has been returning home regularly to play Soho Restaurant and Music Club while on tour.
Alastar toured the world as lead guitarist with current Santa Barbara resident and British classic rock legend Alan Parsons from 2010-2017 and has lent his guitar playing to several Alan Parsons records as well as playing on Glen Phillips (of Toad The Wet Sprocket fame) 2012 release ‘The Coyote Sessions’.
Since moving to Austin, TX in 2022 Alastair has released 3 solo records. Greene’s most recent record and 11th album overall, STANDING OUT LOUD, was released in 2024 and debuted at #3 on The Billboard Blues Album Chart behind Slash and Little Feat.
Some of Alastair’s recent tours have included opening shows for Tab Benoit, Walter Trout, and George Thorogood as well as headlining shows coast to coast in the United States, Canada, The UK, and a recent tour of Europe supporting French rock guitar phenom Laura Cox.
Alastair Greene performs Friday, October 17th at Soho Restaurant and Music Club at 8:30pm
