Best Shrub Roses for the Garden, Vase and Show Table

May 9, 2019 @ 7:00 am PDT

The next meeting of the Santa Barbara Rose Society is on Thursday, May 9, 2019 from 7 – 9 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 909 N La Cumbre Road at Foothill in Santa Barbara.

This month the President of the nationwide American Rose Society, Bob Martin, will present “Shrubs that Show”, a PowerPoint program on showing shrub roses, both modern and classic, with a special focus on roses that look great both in the garden and on the show table. The program is accompanied by beautiful photographs, and some tips on how shrub roses are shown and judged.

Bob Martin is the President of the American Rose Society, the nation’s largest plant society. He has been growing roses for more than 47 years, and lives with his wife Dona, a rose photographer, in Escondido, California, where they maintain a rose garden of more than 500 roses of all types. He is an American Rose Society Master Rosarian, an Accredited Horticultural Judge and an Accredited Arrangements Judge.

Bob is well known as a humorous, effective speaker and rose evangelist, having spoken at 24 American Rose Society national conventions, at district conventions in all of the 18 ARS districts and more than 250 times at rose societies and garden clubs throughout the U.S.

Santa Barbara Rose Society meetings are FREE. We invite everyone to come at 7 pm to socialize and sample our refreshments before the 7:15 Little Rose Show and 7:30 pm speaker presentation. Our motto is “Come for the Roses; Stay for the Friends.”

Guests are welcome! If you grow roses, please bring your cut roses to show off and any rose plants you would like to share. We also welcome goodies for our refreshments table and items for our fun raffle.
