9th ANNUAL LOS ALAMOS DOG RACES: “BARK FOR BOOKS!” IS SATURDAY, JUNE 30, 2018 —A BENEFIT FOR THE LOS ALAMOS PUBLIC LIBRARY

WHO:

Public welcome! Families, friends & canines of all ages. Bring those family pets to compete for prizes!

This year’s Judges include Santa Barbara County 3rd District Supervisor Joan Hartmann, Solvang City Manager Brad Vidro and local dog lover economist Lyla Oyakawa

SCHEDULE:

Saturday, June 30, 2018

10:30 am – Noon          On-site Registration: $20 per dog, per race. 

11:30 a.m.                       Welcome by Supervisor Joan Hartmann followed by Dog Demonstrations by specialty groups; local authors presenting their works, then the “Dog Tricks”, “Dogs in Costume” and *NEW for 2018 . . . the “Dog Kissing” competition.

1:00 p.m.                          National Anthem sung by Genéte Bowen and her Dachshund Gretta          

1:15 p.m.                          Dog Races Begin! (Prizes Will Be Awarded for 1st, 2nd & 3rd Place Winners)

                                                            * Race 1 – Athletically Challenged (disabled/senior)

                                                            * Race 2 – 12” or under height

                                                            * Race 3 – 13” to 17” height

                                                            * Race 4 – 18” to 25” height

                                                            * Race 5 – 26” and over height

                                                            Championship Finale (features 1st place winners from Dog Races 2-5)

                                                *Raffle Drawings held between each race. Winners must be present to receive prizes.
3:30 p.m.                          Awards Ceremony & Grand Prize Raffle Drawing

Ferrini Park, corner of Bell Street (Hwy 135) and Centennial Street in downtown Los Alamos

HOW MUCH:

Free admission for all spectators.

On-site registration is $20 per dog, per race. Registration fees go directly to benefit the Los Alamos Public Library.  

WHAT ELSE?  

~ Raffle with generous gifts from local merchants (raffle tickets available on-site).  

~ Booths with items for sale including used books; local authors (Petrine Mitchum, R. Lawson Gamble, Melissa Boughton, Kris Wood and more) for book purchases and signings.

~ Ponies & Paints will offer face painting for kids of all ages.

~ Jeffrey Bloom Photography on site to capture the perfect image of you with your winning pooch!

            (10% of the proceeds of all photo sales go directly to Friends of the Los Alamos Public Library)
