Art at the JCC Presents EXPOSED III: a Mixed Photographic, Artistic Journey

Art at the JCC will host its third season of EXPOSED, a juried photography exhibition at the Jewish Federation’s Bronfman Family Jewish Community Center, 524 Chapala Street, opening Thursday, November 7th, 5:00-8:00 PM, as a part of downtown Santa Barbara’s 1st Thursday events. The exhibit will be on display through Thursday, January 9th, when a closing reception will be held from 4:30-6:00 PM. The public is invited to enjoy exquisite photography, live music, and refreshments at both receptions—or drop in any time during business hours to enjoy, Monday-Thursday 9:00 am-5:00 pm, Friday 9:00 am-3:30 pm.

EXPOSED III showcases local and national photographers, many of whom are long-standing professionals in the community. Twenty-five percent of the exhibit’s proceeds benefit the Jewish Federation’s Art at the JCC program whose mission is to provide artists from all disciplines the opportunity to bring their work to the Santa Barbara community.

Curated by Lynn M. Holley, EXPOSED III will feature guest juror Christopher Broughton. Pieces will be judged with Awards of Excellence and there will be a cash reward for the 1st prize winner. The exhibit will also feature local journalistic photographer Erick Madrid, among many more talented professional photographers.

“Photography captures all; it is an expressive arts creation different from other disciplines. I am proud to be the curator again in this unique and artistic event,” shares Lynn Holley.

Call to Photographers

Intake will be open at the Bronfman Family JCC from October 24-25, 12:00-2:00 pm. Entry is $15 for one piece, $25 for two pieces, and $30 for three pieces. Photographers’ submissions are payable upon intake. No photography with gratuitous violence or sexuality will be allowed, and all work must be ready to be hung and for sale; frames are optional. Art at the JCC will produce the tags. Names and contact information must be attached or marked on each work.

About Christopher Broughton

Christopher Broughton began his education at Oregon State University then completed both his BA and MS in Photography at Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, CA. He was truly honored to return to his alma mater and serve as a faculty member for over 20 years. He taught courses in both the Undergrad and Graduate programs while at Brooks Institute in Digital Photography, Digital Asset Management, The View Camera, Introduction to the Studio, Advanced Studio Applications, Zone System, Optics of Fine Art and Photographic Theory. One of the true highlights of teaching was the opportunity to spend the last 5 summers taking students abroad to study in the “city of light” Paris, for 10 weeks. Because of his recent travels he has been working on a project entitled Artist Portraits on artists working in Paris.

As well, the acclaimed Ernest H. Brooks II (President of the Brooks Institute after his father), known as the “Ansel Adams of Underwater Photography,” will show his donated piece called Winged Angel.
