The Young Adult Division of the Jewish Federation of Greater Santa Barbara is hosting its 5th Annual Feed the Funk Benefit Concert on Saturday, September 16th at SOhO Restaurant & Music Club from 6:30 pm–12:00 am.
Feed the Funk is an annual Santa Barbara community outreach event that seeks to highlight the importance of educational development through music and performance-based art, as well as, raise funds for local teen arts and music mentorship programs. This year’s benefit concert will support the Jewish Federation’s Teen Comedy Club which offers local teens the rare opportunity to express their unique points of view and gain confidence while by performing in front of live audiences.
This year, there’s something for everyone! From 6:30-9:00 pm, all ages are welcome to enjoy dinner at SOhO while enjoying teen entertainment on the main stage. Led by emcee Louise Palanker, the Jewish Federation’s Teen Comedy Club will kick off the night to warm up the crowd, followed by comedy headliner Tom Clark, the Cate School Jazz Band, the Notes for Notes© Jazz Villains, and starring for the first time – Teen Star Santa Barbara!

From 9:00 pm–12:00 am, the club transforms into a rockin’ music venue for ages 21 and over, featuring live performances by The Big Whoo and Distant Cousins.
The Big Whoo (9:10-10:10 pm)
Since moving to Santa Barbara five years ago, John Whoolilurie has founded several bands and released a live-loop duo record under the name of Whoolilicious. He is a composer and producer at Select Studio, performs and records as a freelance multi-instrumentalist, and has recently started a new band called The Big Whoo. A lover of all music, John’s group of talented Santa Barbara musicians plays funky, eclectic grooves that rock. They are excited to perform at this year’s Feed the Funk in support of music education and empowerment. The concert will also be a birthday celebration for John!
Distant Cousins (10:15-11:45 pm)
This year’s headlining act, Distant Cousins, is a multi-layered collaboration of three songwriters/producers/
In addition to dinner, comedy, and music, attendees can further support local teen programs by bidding on silent auction items and experiences from local businesses, restaurants, wineries, artisans, and more. One lucky raffle prize winner will take home an “Instant Wine Cellar” including dozens of bottles of high quality wine from local winemakers.
Admission Tickets are $15 pre-sale or $20 at the door.

About Teen Star Santa Barbara
Teen Star is a non-profit organization providing youth in Santa Barbara country opportunities to showcase their singing and dancing talents. Its vision is to provide a platform and venue where young performers can flourish in a healthy, supportive environment of family, friends, schools and community. Teen Star provides funding for performing arts departments in local schools, as well as scholarships to help kids further their performance training and education/mentoring with legends from within the industry.

Feed the Funk is organized by the Jewish Federation of Greater Santa Barbara, a non-profit organization that supports and provides social service programs including senior services, counseling, volunteer programs, community education, rescue, and relief, while building community and encouraging leadership among young adults. No matter one’s age, ethnicity, religion, or gender, the Federation’s programs are open to all.
