4th Annual Girls and Boys Club Film Camp

June 16, 2019 @ 9:00 am - June 21, 2019 @ 3:00 am PDT

The dates for the 4th Annual Film Camp have been announced: June 16 – June 21, 2019. In partnership with the United Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Barbara County, SBIFF is thrilled to present Film Camp, an educational summer program for underserved youth. Film Camp is a 6-day overnight experience held at the beautiful Camp Whittier, a 93-acre site nestled in among the hills of Los Padres National Forest where campers are introduced to the exciting world of film production and film appreciation.

“Film Camp is unlike any other program. Not only are campers being introduced to the art of cinema and craft of filmmaking, but these opportunities are mixed with teambuilding exercises and activities, showing them how to also be team players and leaders. It’s incredible to watch the campers grow as people and filmmakers. These are skills they will take with them for life,” said SBIFF Education Coordinator Claire Waterhouse.

“We love our partnership with the SBIFF,   Our kids get to experience all aspects of the art of fi filmmaking,”  said United CEO Michael Baker.

Film Camp is offered at no expense to 30 young people who are members of the UBGCSB. As the blatant shortage of quality arts education programs grow in the public school system, SBIFF is stepping in to fill this critical gap. Fueled by generous donations, Film Camp opens the doorway to film education for many who might otherwise be unable to benefit from it. As we recruit students, we will seek out individuals who have a strong interest in storytelling and filmmaking.

Student activities include:
• Classroom lessons on the fundamentals of filmmaking
• Film screenings
• Hands-on training for a variety of filmmaking equipment and tools
• Professional filmmaker instruction
• Take part in the production of an original short film

Last year’s Film Camp offered classes on screenwriting, film analysis, production, and sound.

Guest speakers included Michael Stinson, Perry Lang, William Conlin, and Academy Award-Winning Editor, Artie Schmidt.

Space is limited to 30 spots and to United Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Barbara members.  To learn more about United Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Barbara County visit www.unitedbg.org or call 805-681-1315.
