2017 Santa Maria Walk to End Alzheimer’s

September 30, 2017 @ 9:00 am PDT

The Alzheimer’s Association invites the North Santa Barbara County community to unite in a movement to reclaim the future for millions by participating in the 2017 Santa Maria Walk to End Alzheimer’s®, presented by Edward Jones, this Saturday, Sept. 30 at Waller Park in Santa Maria. Registration will start at 8 a.m., with Promise Garden Ceremony at 9 a.m. and the Walk at 9:30 a.m. Gary Gross, the Santa Maria Volunteer Walk Committee Chair and the Alzheimer’s Association, partnered with local sponsors, businesses, and vendors, invite you to join us in this community event.

In addition to the 5K and 3K this year which participants can either run or walk, participants can enjoy breakfast provided by Merrill Gardens and entertainment after the Walk. Champions and Grand Champions (those who have raised or donated at least $500 and $1,000, respectively) also can receive complimentary massages at the Champions Tent. Walk participants also honor those affected by Alzheimer’s disease with the poignant Promise Garden ceremony.

Alzheimer’s disease is a growing epidemic and the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death. As baby boomers age, the number of individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease will rapidly escalate, increasing well beyond today’s more than 5 million Americans, including more than 10,000 in Santa Barbara County, to as many as 16 million by 2050.

The next Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Santa Barbara County will be the Santa Barbara Walk at the Fess Parker Doubletree Resort, Saturday, October 28. To start or join a team today for the Santa Barbara Walk, visit the website at act.alz.org/santabarbara or contact Walk Manager Whitney McMullen at wcmcmullen@alz.org or 805.892.4259 ext. 101. To learn more about the disease and available resources, call the toll-free Alzheimer’s Association 24/7 Helpline at 800.272.3900 or visit alz.org.
