Fight ageism where it lives, Observer. In your own mind. Who knows what a person is thinking when they feel the need to find a permanent solution to a temporary problem? Jung said “Be kind to all you meet. Everyone carries a huge burden”. Frank Zappa said “Your Mouth is your religion”. I think about that before I open it...... There are no problems, only solutions.
Inspecting the Historic Mission Tunnel
Who do they send to do this, the newest employees? Would not want to be in the middle of that tunnel during an earthquake.

Effectively aren't they exposing themselves in public? That is a pretty severe crime and can result in you having to register as a sex offender. If they have access to bathrooms, then there's no reason not to prosecute them for this. If they don't have access to bathrooms, then it is our fault. I still don't understand why we have 900 homeless people in town when our share of homeless based on our population relative to the nation is about 100. The state or feds should be giving us money for the other 800 because we are solving their problem.
New Phone Scam Uses Real Business Numbers
We get bogus calls frequently that leave the same message, something about “your credit”. We block the number and a week later the same call comes in on a different number. It’s like whack-a-mole. Does anyone know what risk there is in calling them back, without giving them any information, and messing with them. Just to jerk them around? I’ve tried using *67 (caller ID blocking) but they have that blocked so my call never goes through.
Drought Relief Indicated, Yet Water Supply Shortage Remains in Effect
The drought in the late 1940s was a doozy, no Cachuma and Gibraltar was dry (a story in Life or Look (magazines) had a story on the CA drought with the cover picture of Gibraltar so dry the ground was cracked). The Miramar Hotel Garage (later convention center) was stealing our water at night to wash their guests' cars.

It is highly illogical in this town. The one next to the Fiesta 5 cost 600K a decade ago and is now totally ruined by homeless. They can't even allow doors on it to prevent illegal activity inside. Building that today would cost $4M, be LEED certified and be completely ruined for taxpayers within the month.

Disgusting! Come shop in Carpinteria. Clean, fun shops, and good restaurants.

Good grief, the facts are all wrong here. There was a self-governing hobo village during the Great Depression on land that is now the Child's Estate Zoo - nothing to do with Julia Childs, and absolutely nothing at all to do with the out of control vagrancy camps and those sucking off the current social safety net. Those were working adults who lived in that former "hobo village". Another time, another ethic, but self-sufficiency and playing by rules were very much a part of that old Child's estate hobo story.

This is why I stopped hosting my business retreats at the Hotel Santa Barbara several times each year. It seems like the City does clean this area up right before the SB Film Festival each year, and perhaps at other times. I would love to be a part of the solution to this problem in a way that would serve everyone involved. Ideas?

Suicide an "easy way out"? I don't think it's easy at all, just a solution of last resort.

there are 2 options: you do what SF did and hire the poop patrol at 200k a year each. Or you can actually vote in someone competent to manage the city like it should be. Past that, we get what we asked for. I dont ever go down to that dump anymore.
Drought Relief Indicated, Yet Water Supply Shortage Remains in Effect
City of Santa Barbara water customers do not pay a "drought surcharge". Look at your utility bill. Goleta Water District has a drought charge, not sure about Montecito Water District, but not SB. The drought will officially be over when Cachuma spills. There has been no official drought status change in the City of SB, although that may be in works and no doubt customers and the community in general will be advised. Meanwhile, all irrigation should be turned off during the rain and for 48 hours after measurable rain. The community must conserve water, summer is coming! How soon we tend to forget about the heat and arid conditions as soon as it rains and the hills turn green. Don't forget, all that green turns brown in the scorching summer sun and turns into fuel for the inevitable wildfires. Which have to be put out using...you guessed it...water. Please conserve.

Ugh.. So much un-necessary destruction. Typical.

Again. The easy way out.
Public Urination on State Street
I had to go downtown to City Hall last year to renew my business license in person. When I got home, I discovered I had been the victim of a pick pocket (nothing valuable, but still distressing) AND I had stepped in human feces. Fortunately discovered that while still in the garage near the laundry sink. Disgusting AND distressing. I used to work just off State and enjoyed walking and shopping before and after work and on my lunch break. I will not go down there now for ANY reason!

Kids today are pampered, coddled and told they're special at every single point in their lives. They do not work (chores? what chores!), they do not walk to school or ride their bikes or even play without full supervision and let's not forget, helmets, bubble wrap and a cell phone ready to call 911. So of course when faced with the realities of life many panic. We've raised a generation of coddled, emotionally stunted wimps. So many kids are frightened of hard work, failure / second place and lack any semblance of the grit it takes to succeed in life. This is what happens when parents refuse to let their kids be kids - you know, scuff their knees, be upset, lose the game or come in last place... Top it off with a steady deluge of brain candy and dopamine on their phones / social media, every day. And you have a serious lack of human development occurring. Why? Because they always get the easy way out... What will all these coddled kids do when they have to deal with the reality of life?

so what, then, is a less moronic, equally efficient way to handle this in your mind?
Palm Frond Removal?
In the 1950s the horseshow grounds were at Pershing Park. For the National Horseshow in July the city covered the frame over the bleachers with fresh palm fronds. They obviously trimmed many trees each summer.

Just don't put them in the green waste bin as they're on Marborg's 'not accepted' list. https://www.marborg.com/residential-green-waste-santa-barbara
