Dog Running on Highway 101

A neighbor had a black Lab. One day her mother came and said she found the dog wandering on the street and gave her a ride home; opened the car door and the dog jumped right in. However, her daughter's dog was in the backyard. Black Labs all look pretty much alike and are friendly as all heck (we had one).

I hope the dog is safe and his owner has been found. If I would of been there I would of tried to catch him, for sure. I do own a dog and her everywhere, and people seem to always flock around her, she seems to bring happiness to the people who see her. She has never attempted to bite a person in her life, So yes be responsible pet owners, they are counting on us, to keep them safe.

We had a Husky, he liked to run off anytime he figured how to get out. Good luck catching a Husky if it doesn't want to be caught. During my young years dogs were common tripping off wherever they wanted to go. A dog we had made regular visits to a woman living in a Miramar Hotel Cottage. She'd have her maid bring the dog in and get treats for it. Hope this one got home. LUCKY 777, I love your tale of the Husky and how you solved keeping it away from the dog catcher.

Dogs don't belong in stores: They don't carry money. Their owners are welcome: They do and aren't likely to jump on, bite or trip people and don't cause issues for people with pet dander allergies. Loneliness--either of owner or pet--is not an excuse.

Please pet owners: LEASHES! And don’t bring your animals into stores or restaurants pushing out paying customers, when store owners need revenues. I often leave Macy’s and elsewhere to avoid dogs. Besides Costco, where can I shop where dogs are not welcome?

My pal Dan who used to live where Roger lives had a Husky that would take himself for runs down Milpas and to the beach. Poor Danny had to pay the bail every time the dog catcher jailed him. I ended up making tags for the collar that read "I'm NOT lost, don't call the cops, call Dan at xxxxx"

It was probably back in the day when life was more mellow, less people and people weren't so uptight about dogs roaming around. There was the legendary dog who would hitchhike on onramps, catching rides from I.V to Santa Barbara and back. I never got the chance to transport him anywhere but friends told me all about him. True story.

Some dogs are inveterate wanderers. There was a 15-lb mutt in my Upper East neighborhood who would roam for miles. He just did his thing. Animal Control couldn't catch him. I think they finally gave up on him. I once spotted him over a mile from our hood. I stopped and offered him a ride. He knew me, but he totally snubbed me. There was a lot less traffic back then, but he was still awesomely street smart. He visited one little old lady so often, she put up a "Beware of Dog" sign to alert mailmen and meter readers. His name was "Max." The lady was German. She called him "My little Maxell."

On Craigslist someone posted about their lost Husky. That was several days ago. Then the ad disappeared. A day later or so, another person posted that s/he had seen a Husky wandering, but the dog refused any approach or help.
