Santa Barbara Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Kelly Hoover reports the bomb squad examined the contents of the package and determined it was not hazardous.

A bomb squad is investigating a suspicious package found on El Colegio in Isla Vista.

Santa Barbara Sheriff's and County firefighters are on the scene after a suspicious package was reported near Camino Corto and El Colegio, near Isla Vista Elementary and Santa Catalina Residence Halls. 

A robot used by the Sheriff's office is removing the package from a Sheriff's vehicle in this photo captured by Mike Eliason with the County Fire Department.

No other information is known at this time, but edhat will update this article when additional information is available.

Are we really so cowardly as a society that a small, misplaced piece of mail causes a full bomb response? The law enforcement "coming to the rescue" are far more likely to kill you than any terrorist.

It looks like an ordinary package ready to be dropped off at the post office from here. People watch too much Fear & Outrage on Cable TV. I suppose talk radio is no better. "Come right up, get your frillies in a twist right here!!" cries the carnival barker.
