Brush fire off Highway 101 southbound at the Castillo Offramp. Full City Response with Batt:714.
Near exit 79...
All units back in service must have been small or.....Fire was in a large Homeless camp BBQing fire is out Engine One and everyone else back in service.
Saw this same encampment from the train yesterday. It is huge. Amazing that you have dozens of people living there, coming and going and lounging. I think this one is on Caltrans property. Homeless camps start just north of Summerland. Montecito has quite a few big ones. SB city tracks are lined with camps. Then in Goleta you have a few huge ones right north of Goleta station. Train conductor said he heard they were going to clear them out but nothing has happened.
I drive by this offramp all the time and yesterday I saw a ton of opened amazon boxes sitting around. the odds of some of these being stolen is really high. It's too bad nothing is really being done here
Ton of Amazon boxes! I suspected something was up. Last week rounding the corner on Rancheria street, I saw someone ducking through the opening in the fence with what looked like an unopened Amazon box,
Tons of Amazon boxes!! Last week, driving around the corner onto Rancheria, I saw someone, stepping through the hole in the fence. He had tucked under his arm what looked like an unopened Amazon box.
My neighbors had a late delivery of Pet Food from Chewys the guy who dropped it off put it right on the front porch of course it's going to get ransacked sounds like they are over staying the welcome they never got.
Call the police and tell them.
These homeless people are going to burn down this city one day.

Our city is full of encampments just like this one that are an eyesore not too mention a violation of every zoning and planning law. And most importantly a health and safety hazard! Our Mayor has not done a thing to stem their growth nor put forth any action that would eliminate their presence. Heck, I cannot even re-call a formal statement by the woman. Murillo is an abject failure. She has proven to be the least capable, least effective mayor in our history. She is only interested in the easy duties, rubber stamps, cheap photo-ops and toothless assertions. Mayor Murillo, do the right thing for the future of Santa Barbara and resign.
The illegal encampment at the southbound Castillo off ramp has been obvious for several months. The piles of trash, makeshift shelter and shopping carts left down in the off ramp were certainly noticed by our city leaders as well as police and fire department personnel. Why no one took action to clear out the encampment is perplexing. The obvious explanation is that none of the aforementioned entities did their job. Will one of them chime in and explain?
Call District 5 CalTrans and demand that they start taking responsibility for THEIR properties...! The Admin in District 5 is way up in nice-clean San Luis Obispo, and neglect the Southern area of their responsibilities .
CalTrans District 5 Info;
On Thursday there was quite a collision at the Hot Springs roundabout. There was an ambulance and the vehicles looked to be in bad shape. I have seen no reports regarding this.
A 5 year collision report for the intersection of San Ysidro Road and N. Jameson Lane shows fewer than 1 collision per year with no injury accidents. Stop signs are working there and a Caltrans-Hot Springs Road roundabout is not needed at the Gateway to Montecito.
