The oft-photographed Yosemite NP. I had the privilege of being snowbound in the park beginning last Sunday (Feb. 3) when a monster storm dumped so much snow, the park essentially shut down.

We were on foot for 2 days before the roads in the Valley were opened. Visitors were not allowed in until Wednesday at noon. Most meadows were thigh deep with snow which made navigating on foot a real challenge.

It was surreal to drive around on Wednesday for several hours completely alone! Here are a few images I made, and a couple of iPhone pics too!

Beautiful photos. I think it takes skill to photograph snowy scenes like this (I've tried!) especially that last, delicate one of the trees. And the first is simply eye-popping. Thank you for sharing.

If only there were a way to visit such places of natural beauty and experience them fully without actually being there and disrupting them and changing the experience. "Virtual Reality" may be better than cinema or photos but it isn't a full experience since there are so many peripherals it can't provide.

You'd still be part of a crowd and many aren't former long distance back-packer climbers. They don't pick up after themselves and pack out everything they came in with. To make matters worse, some are loud, unsanitary and bring pets they don't pick up after either.

Lucky you. We used to take our kids up there the second weekend in February for years. Many times we had snow and not too many people. Ice skating, walking, skiing at Badger, and getting to know some of the characters who worked in the cafeteria. Over the years, we 'graduated' from a tent to the cabins, to the lodge to the Ahwahnee. Great memories. Thank you for sharing these beautiful pictures.

This has got to be a dream experience. If it could be bottled, it would. I'm sure quite challenging for much of the time, but that, in the end, is what makes it eternally memorable. Awesome.
