The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department is joining with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to observe National Influenza Vaccination Week, December 2 – December 9, 2018. National Influenza Vaccination Week is a national awareness campaign focused on highlighting the importance of continuing flu vaccination through the holiday season and beyond.

CDC recommends getting vaccinated by the end of October so that people are more likely to be protected against the flu when activity picks up in the community, however, vaccination into December and beyond can be beneficial during most flu seasons, including this one. Flu season most often peaks between December and March, but activity can occur as late as May. “As long as flu viruses are spreading and causing illness, vaccination should continue throughout the flu season in order to protect as many people as possible against the flu,” said Dr. Peter Hasler, Santa Barbara County Deputy Health Officer.

An annual flu vaccination is the best way to prevent the flu and flu-related complications that could lead to hospitalization, and at times can lead to death. A flu vaccine is not only important for protecting yourself but also for protecting your friends and family members. Health experts across the country recommend that everyone 6 months of age and older, including pregnant women, get a flu vaccine.

Flu vaccines are available from your doctor and at many retail pharmacies. Many employers, schools, colleges, and universities also offer flu vaccines. Next time you see a sign that says, “Get Your Flu Vaccine Here,” stop in and get one and encourage your friends and family to do the same. You can also find a flu vaccination clinic near you with the vaccine finder at https://bit.ly/1kOESHW

Flu shots are covered by Medi-Cal, Medicare, and by most insurance plans. Please check with your insurance provider for coverage details.

Dr. Thompson is a typical anti-vax fraud. ================================================== https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/bad-medicine/ ================================================== https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/andrew-wakefields-vaxxed-antivaccine-propaganda-at-its-most-pernicious/

If you want the real story on vaccines, why not listen to Dr. William Thompson, Senior Vaccine Scientist at the CDC? You can find his story here: Www.Vaxxed.com

Premeditated fraud is the basis for the autism-vaccine study initiated by Wakefield. The intent was to use the study as the basis for a class action lawsuit against a vaccine manufacturer. This is one of many links detailing the fraud. https://behavior.org/sfaba-vaccine/ Just search Wakefield + vaccine + autism + fraud for more. It took seven years to prove his study was fraudulent, meanwhile he scared many parents out of getting their kids vaccinated which continues to this day. Worse, it resulted into autism research resources getting diverted to tracking down nonsense links associated with the fraud. Sure, not everything on the internet is correct, but with enough cross referencing you’ll figure out what’s correct.

I think children who are not vaccinated should not be allowed in public schools. Too much fraud going on with medical exemptions, etc. My children are neurotic in many ways ....but had their children vaccinated. I have a few friends who are anti-vaccinations. I think these parents are selfish and just like to be on some 'bandwagon'. Growing numbers of measles/chicken pox, etc. in this day and age is crazy. I remember my first vaccine, polio shot in grade K. Traumatizing, but so was seeing kids in wheelchairs and empty pools for fear of us getting polio.

Back in the 60s when I grew up, we had vaccines with lots of mercury as a preservative, parents who smoked in cars with the windows up, no seat belts, and lots of DDT in everything. And lots of PCBs in everything too including our school report cards. Asbestos hot pads. I'm an older father too. I'm just glad my kids resemble humans more than they do amphibians.

I have a hard time responding to someone whose identity is deliberately blacked out. I listed that article simply because it was the only one (out of many) that acknowledged the CDC as listing Guillain-Barré Syndrome as a side effect of the flu shot. I think it's prudent for people to know that it's a possibility. Don't you?

The Daily Mail tabloid, every medical professional's preferred source of epidemiology. You do realize that you're in more danger crossing the street or riding in a vehicle than from getting a vaccine, don't you?

Good grief, again with the vaccines cause autism? We were all vaccinated for years and years and years and the autism "rates" never shot up as fast as in the last few years, when PPL actually STOPPED vaccinating their kids. So if there was a correlation why is it that the rates of autism continue to increase while less ppl are vaccinating? Can you explain that? I would say autism is more likely linked to the poisons and toxins in all the goods we have and use from China including plates and such with paints that contain lead and arsenic.

There is a definite correlation between older parents, especially fathers, and increased chances of autism.

One theory I have read is that the rise a result of all the make-up, lotions and potions that modern western woman freely paint their bodies and ingest these days. Another is its over the counter pain pills taken during pregnancy. Ibuprofen and others... I dont know but I do know that it's better to get medical advice from actual physicians and scientists instead of online forums or Facebook groups.

Why is the younger generation so into socialism for everyone else, but fierce libertarians when it comes to decisions about their own lives? Do they honestly believe clamoring for state-funded universal health care is not going to include mandatory universal vaccinations?

Read up on the Hannah Poling case. Through VAERS (a government database tracking vaccine injuries and deaths, which is another great place to spend some time researching), the court awarded the family $1.5M+ in the First-Ever Vaccine-Autism Court Award. Some may continue to argue that it was "settled" and not "judged", but there is a link that was realized in this court. Please remember: companies, representatives and the CDC itself are profiting from vaccines, and companies cannot be held accountable for injuries in this country (although other countries are suing). No one is surprised about the Monsanto verdict, but somehow it seems unfathomable that this could be true of vaccine companies. Children are being injured and dying from both the diseases and vaccines. We should stop pitting ourselves against one another - really, it's beneath us - and call for independent studies and research to protect all of our children.

Vaccines do not cause autism. There is zero science to show a correlation. Children that are not vaccinated make other children sick or cause them to die. Even the father in this case is not anti-vaccine. The things you are referring to are "pseudo-science". The medical community does not support these outlandish statements. Polling did not have autism.

The vaccine-autism link is a fraud. This is a summary article on what led to it. Many children and people suffer needlessly from Wakefield's fraud. https://www.vox.com/2018/2/27/17057990/andrew-wakefield-vaccines-autism-study

If there is ZERO correlation, then why is autism listed as an adverse effect on the vaccine insert information sheet? Here is a direct quote from the Tripedia DTAP: "Adverse events reported during post-approval use of Tripedia vaccine include idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, SIDS, anaphylactic reaction, celluitis, autism, convulsion/grand mal convulsion, encephaloptahy, hypotnonia, neuropathy, somnolence and apnea."

thanks for the link. I of course am not daft enough to believe that vaccines cause autism (that would mean they literally change dna...?) but was wondering where they believed they saw that autism was actually written as a warning. anti-vaxxers are stupid - they think a dead child is better than risking "catching" autism. @sunnyhat That is simply not true. Science and Snopes both prove that statement as not factual https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/autism-is-now-disclosed-as-dtap-side-effect/

Right. The only reason most medicine data sheets list just about everything up to and including "death" in the litany of side effects is a result of a confluence of ignorance and the American legal system, which encourages all sorts of CYA nonsense to avoid lawsuits that are expensive, but essentially baseless.

It’s Not Too Late To Vaccinate

Because if someone reported it, they have to include it. That doesn't mean the vaccine actually caused the problem. If I get a vaccine or take a drug and tell my doctor it caused hemorrhoids, the doctor is supposed to report that. Doesn't mean the shot caused it, just that it was reported. Strange but true.

@ZEROHAWK "Even though we, the USA, has more vaccinations than other nations and we have the highest rate of autism. " Correlation doesn't imply causation. That is a very basic concept even taught in grammar school. Do you have peer reviewed science to show otherwise? With that same lack of logic, I could claim cell phones have attributed to autism - even though, like your statement, there is zero scientific proof to back it.

or not falling for the story that the vaccines are safe...? even though we, the USA, has more vaccinations than other nations and we have the highest rate of autism. funny how that seems to connect....

and you have scientific, non partisan, fact for this? that you did not find online on a site that is made to defraud such facts? as i stated before...i can post anything online, make it look official, present links, post photos and people will believe it. honestly, the public has no facts either way. the government and government run labs will never tell you exactly whats in the vaccines, nor will they ever say it is a link to autism even if it was.

However, NOT believing in vaccination has a strong correlation with NOT having an expertise in the medical field.
