What was the origin of all the explosions in the Goleta Beach area Wednesday night, Oct. 17?  They were going off regularly all late afternoon.

I also heard loud sounds in the early morning (after midnight) hours of 10/18/18 and would like to know what they were. I'm wondering if these were the same sounds that the OP heard. We're near Magnolia shopping center, and they sounded like loud thumps that were occurring every 15-30 minutes for many hours non-stop. If they sounded like explosions near Goleta beach, I can imagine that the sound, traveling all the way over here, would be more muted.

Maybe the sound of the numerous Bird scooters, discarded there along bike path, being tossed into the dumpsters?

remember, there is a natural gas storage center, water filtration plant, and airport all right near goleta beach. could have been one of those perhaps.

Friends living in the nearby trailer park (right off the bike path) say the natural gas storage facility often generates very loud noises.
