Old Mission Santa Barbara was vandalized with red paint with the words rape and genocide written near the church doors early Wednesday morning.

Edhat readers reported seeing the vandalism around 6:00 a.m. Wednesday with spray-painted words "genecide," assuming to mean genocide. "Rape" and "Never forget the lives + stolen land" were also painted on the Mission.

A window was also broken and the Santa Barbara Police Department state the vandalism was reported as early as 4:30 a.m. Wednesday with the paint already dried, reports KEYT News. The crime is considered a felony with the estimated damage is over $30,000.

Another act of vandalism occurred at the Santa Barbara Mission when the Junipero Serra statue was beheaded in September of 2017.

You won’t hear from the mayor. She’s been in for what, about a year now and how many times have you seen her? Once maybe twice...she’s in it for the special interest not for the true well being of Santa Barbara and its residents. We tried to warn you....

Well said ! I also would like to hear from our Mayor, as I see this as an an attack on our beautiful City. I hope the Police Department posts the security video footage so the public can assist in the arrest of the losers who did this.

Sounds like something a criminal would say.."Get over it" Like many who excuse the molestation of children within the catholic church people who have never suffered say those words in the sense of being under the power of those who torture others through molestation and rape it is not fun and people just don't get over it without taking other lives.

When we are hundreds of years after the fact? Get over it doesn't mean forget! It means no one alive today was personally wronged nor responsible for these past wrongs. One can agree what happened to the Native Americans was wrong AND vandalism to disinterested parties is also wrong.

"We" didn't do anything of the kind. But if you really are feeling bad about "stolen land," then I'm sure you'd be happy to sell your home (or move out of your rental) and leave civilization. The reason being, ALL land was once someone else's. Try to get over the past.

Shorebird - nice try but that's not a word. Well, that is unless you're thinking of the Marvel superhuman, "Genecide," who is gifted "with the ability to perceive the genetic codes of people around her." -- http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Genecide_(Earth-616)
