Friday morning at approximately 10:23 hours a structure fire was reported at 3756 Greggory Way in Santa Barbara. The first arriving Fire Captain advised dispatch and responding units he had a working structure fire.  The fire was in a second story apartment unit.

The aggressive fire attack kept the damage to the unit involved. Additional evacuations were ordered for the neighboring units, however, no damage to any other units was reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

One mobility challenged female occupant was alerted by her smoke detector at the time of the fire. A Good Samaritan called 911 and helped the elderly occupant leave her apartment. She then assisted with evacuation of the apartment unit below the fire.

Santa Barbara City Fire Department responded 4 fire engines, one ladder truck, a hazardous materials unit and two Battalion Chiefs. Mutual aid was provided by Santa Barbara County Fire Department with one engine company, and Montecito Fire Protection District sent a Battalion Chief. Santa Barbara Police assisted with traffic control and evacuations. No injuries were reported. Southern California Edison was requested to respond to the incident to manage the utilities. Red Cross responded to offer assistance to the occupants.

The Santa Barbara City Fire Department would like to remind everyone that smoke detectors save lives. Please check your smoke detector regularly and change the batteries when you change your clocks.
