Spunky old man! Kiwi is a 15 year old, 4 lb quirky old man with more spunk than most dogs have in their dew claw.  Another case of LDBP, (Little Dog, Big Personality). Kiwi is up for long walks, cuddles, play time, you name it! Kiwi spends his days hanging out and snuggling with his fellow senior little dogs, but he doesn’t understand why he is still at the shelter. He just wants to be in a home with friends to mingle with.

Kiwi has his paws crossed that his forever home is on its way! We just need to make sure that the dog introduction goes well. Back-ups are always accepted.

Gread news for Scamp at the SB shelter! Yesterday, Santa Barbara County Public Health tweeted out the following: SBC Public Health‏ @SBCPublicHealth Replying to @SB_Scamp @HumaneSociety and 7 others Thanks to collaboration with partners, safety will be maintained for the public and staff as the dog will be moving to Shadow's Fund. My thoughts: If you want to thank Shadow's Fund for rescuing Scamp, please visit their website and donate a few dollars. (shadowsfund.org)

RLJ, thanks for the info on Scamp. I intend to call Van Do-Reynoso at (805) 681-5102 this afternoon and request more time for the two year old Scamp. Too young to die.

Typically in the shelter business, no-kill is defined by a 90% live-release rate. This means 10% can be killed and the shelter can still self-proclaim their no-kill status. If 3000 dogs are inducted in a given year, 299 can be euthanized by a 'no-kill' shelter. Animal Health Services in Santa Barbara County falls under the Santa Barbara County Public Health Department. If you feel the killing of a healthy two-year old pup this coming Friday is unacceptable, contact Van Do-Reynoso at (805) 681-5102 and let her know you want Scamp (ID#A406963) to be given additional time. Scamp is perfectly healthy and the SB shelter isn't even at half capacity. There's no reason to kill this young dog. Someone has set up a Twitter page for @SB_Scamp and there are now over 4600 followers, including local news folks, politicians and celebrities.

I thought Santa Barbara was "no kill". Sad to hear a 2 year old is scheduled to die. What breed is he?

Thank you DAWG for providing a safe space for Kiwi while he waits for adoption. He's a great dog. And thank you for also pulling Skipper from the Santa Barbara County Animal Shelter in Goleta. Now lets get two year old Scamp adopted or rescued from the Santa Barbara Shelter before he is euthanized after next Friday. Yes, young Scamp is listed for euthanization if not adopted or rescued by August 18th.
