On Tuesday, 07-10-18, at approximately 2:00 PM, deputies from the Compliance Response Team (CRT) conducted a traffic stop on a black Dodge Caravan, after the vehicle was observed travelling through a stop sign without coming to a complete stop at the intersection of Duvali Street and Estriga Lane in the city of Santa Maria. The driver of the vehicle initially yielded to the deputies, but upon their approach the driver quickly fled in the vehicle. Before the deputies could get back to their vehicles, the driver of the minivan lost control and crashed through a concrete gate and into a kids play area in the Westgate Courtyard Apartments, where several children were playing.

Witnesses identified the driver as 33-year old Saam Massoudi of Santa Maria, who deputies knew had a warrant issued for his arrest. Massoudi and an unknown passenger fled from the vehicle.

With the assistance of officers from the Santa Maria Police Department, the Santa Maria Police Department K9 unit and the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office K9 unit, officers and deputies conducted a search of the area for Massoudi, but were unable to locate him.

During a search of the vehicle being driven by Massoudi, with the assistance of a Santa Barbara Sheriff’s K9 trained to seek and locate narcotics, deputies located a bag containing 35.1 grams of suspected methamphetamine, as well as a digital scale believed to help facilitate in the sales of narcotic.

Saam Massoudi is currently wanted by the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office for his outstanding felony warrants, plus several charges related to his actions from today, including willfully fleeing law enforcement officers in a vehicle without disregard for the safety of others, hit-and-run and possession of methamphetamine for sales.

If you know of Moussaid’s whereabouts, please call the Sheriff’s Office 24-hours a day at 805-683-2724. To leave an anonymous tip, please call the tip line at 805-681-4171 or you can also leave an anonymous tip on our website:

When the criminals are in jail/prison life is much safer for those who aren't criminals. When the three strikes rule was enacted (by voter initiative - the legislature wouldn't do it) the crime rate went down significantly. Now with a couple of the latest propositions passing the crime rate has gone back up. Again, crime goes down when criminals are behind bars.

Come on, guys. This dude is a loss no matter where he lives. His stupid, self-destructive choices will take him down early, but maybe not early enough. He'll cost others a lot, maybe even their lives, until then. (My viewpoint isn't PC , just true.)

I know I will get a ration for this but...is it just me or does anyone else wish that Edhat would separate Santa Maria from Santa Barbara like they do for Ventura? I am so tired of reading about the shenanigans that go on up there. We have enough in SB as it is. Santa Maria and Lompoc are different animals though.

Yes, COASTWATCH. Meth-heads and heroin addicts. We need critical new thinking about what's best for the community and what is BEST for addicts. My feeling, get them off the street. Sheriff Brown has some sort of drug treatment program in the jail. Make it available to all those who feel free roaming around in vehicles...hitting children's play areas.
