Pretty sure it's this:

They're on my street. Scraggly but blooming, amazingly.

Pyrus kawakamii. Chinese Evergreen pear. In bloom all over Santa Barbara right now. You can tell they're really happy with all of the recent rain we've had. Pretty spectacular display.

They are blooming well this year because we had some frosty days late fall and early winter.

These trees, Pyrus kawakamii and Pyrus calleryana are natives to China, Viet Nam + Taiwan + are definitely doing their spring thing right now! An especially dramatic display is at the YMCA on Hitchcock. They were a popular landscape tree in the '60s, having been promoted by Lady Bird Johnson, but have fallen out of favor, as they can be invasive + do not attract native pollinators. --->A very interesting + fun-to-use plant and animal ID app is www.iNaturalist.org, maintained by the National Geographic Society!
