Socal Gas has published their monthly tariff book for February 2023.  The residential rate (GR) has declined to $2.01 per therm from $4.35 per therm in January.  These rates reflect the combined per therm baseline charge for both procurement and transmission of gas.   We are not quite through this peak in gas prices just yet. While the new tariff becomes effective February 1st, depending on your billing cycle date, your next bill may reflected a combination of both the January and February tariffs.

Hang in there everyone.  https://tariff.socalgas.com/regulatory/tariffs/tm2/pdf/tariffs/GAS_G-SCHEDS_GR.pdf

915films: Shell isnt making those profits here in the US (like Biden regularly lies about). World demand is skyrocketing in places like India where they are trying to move away from coal burned in fireplaces and where Hillary is making rediculous speeches to disuade them. Many countries want to get out of 3rd world status and natural gas is that answer. Meanwhile we regress in the US chasing a rediculous goal of solar and wind energy sources. But, you get to pay for it. Thank Newsom and Biden.

@Buford. "In 2021, Shell generated around 194.7 billion U.S. dollars through its oil products segment, making it the largest business segment by sales" - Statista.com
Your Dem Derangement Syndrome is showing.

I just looked at my bill. Last month $79 which is double what it usually is. The current bill is $349! WTF?! The only option can increase at will. I love our government!

Pricing of gas delivery to home tags to the natural gas futures market because SC gas and its parent Sempra buy gas well in advance of the demand. March nat gas futures are down - 1.87% after August 2022 nat gas hitting a 14 year record high. Why so high? Low production and high demand. Why high demand in August when no one in CA heats their homes much if at all? Natural gas electricity runs the nations air conditioners

Well, it just doesn't pass the smell test...
SCG could (and probably should) use standard costing, reset annually, to prevent dumbass bills like the one I just received. Roughly 4 times what I would normally pay for the same usage. SCG seems a bit flat-footed here. Kind of like cows watching a passing train...

SCE gives out higher bills in the summer time.
Even as the sun gets hotter to power wind farms and solar panels?
Seems that So Cal Gas is finally catching on?
Or they have to pay for half finished pipe lines that got cancelled?
Or Europe not getting Russian gas now? And MBAs are doing their job.
Time to lower the gas water heater setting when go out of town.
And lower the room thermostats at night.
Or put on sweaters and clothes. Burn some logs in the fireplace.
And need to get goverments to end excess taxes and deficit spending. or
then households would have more money to pay these bills.

"Oil giant Shell posts highest-ever annual profit of $40 billion ... is more than double the firm’s full-year 2021 profit of $19.29 billion."
Hunter Biden gotta be behind this.

I am looking forward to smaller utility bills in the the round. The $400 or so "extra" charges on my bills meant that we did not and are not going out to dine like we usually do. I cannot imagine those who were struggling before the extra-high gas/electric bills. Not sure why some are stating that they are happy about this, but my guess would be that those folks are not struggling and have plenty of dough. On the "good" side of the price fluctuations of fossil fuels is that for those of us who purchased their stock (BP for example was around $22 then and now around $35). Thank goodness we did not invest in Brookfield Renewable Partners (BEP). Two years ago it was around $50/share and has dramatically fallen below $30 (a few days ago it was below $25)! Bottom line is that when the price of fossil fuels goes up, the "Big Oil" companies cash in along with their investors. Go figure.

Seems ironic that the news cycle has been about electric cooking and now this just happens out of the blue. $.67 per therm in June and $2.69 per therm now in December. 4 X increase.

Sac @9:53 That's pretty funny. So just a slight joke or do you have some proof that the current admin is responsible? It's all about backing up your statements with factual proof, right?

BASIC - yup, it sure is political. Remember? Biden and Newsom made the prices go up, so now we can thank them for lowering them!
