Two people were taken to the hospital Monday night after their vehicle plunged over the side of East Camino Cielo in the mountains above Santa Barbara, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
Emergency personnel were dispatched at about 7:30 p.m. to East Camino Cielo near Painted Cave Road, where a Toyota 4Runner was reported to be some 150 feet off the roadway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A male and a female who were in the vehicle managed to climb out of the wreckage and scramble back up to the roadway, said fire Capt. Scott Safechuck.
Saw multiple Search & Rescue vehicles going up the pass last night to this call with lights and sirens. I heard that it was too foggy for the helicopter to fly, luckily the people were able to scramble to the road.
