I'd love to ask about recommendations for restrooms on the 101 Northbound from Goleta to Buellton on behalf of a family member with a medical condition. Given the ongoing Gaviota Rest Area closure, I don't know about any other options.

However, I think there are some beaches along the way which may offer restrooms- do they require paid visitor parking? Are they easy to access? Do they have port-a-potties ? Thanks!

Were one of the *Of* commenters to decorate Union Square in their preferred manner, it would be difficult to attribute it as human, since it would have such a LARGE DIAMETER, analogous to the ideological excrement they deposit here daily.

When I posted about roadside relief, it was meant for pee only! Number 2 is anything but sterile and at the very least should be "cat holed" (buried) and that is still undesirable. It is sad that a society cannot provide basic relief for human needs. SB City taxpayers spent $$$ on public bathrooms only to remove them, now the gutter is the can. Building more bathrooms and hiring attendants to monitor and clean them will cost less than the damage done by septic contamination of our streets.

For male types - I suggest am empty wide mouth Gatorade bottle. Good for at least two pees unless you are a horse. Female types - look into REI or Amazon for various funnels and devices to direct the flow. Gatorade bottles work well too if you are ambidextrous and can maintain the properly balance stance according to my wife.

If we are talking immediate and possibly explosive "number twos" - look into "Wag Bags" - we use them for backpacking and rock climbing - a self-contained leak proof stink proof method of elimination. Or go ghetto - a plastic grocery bag with handles from Albertsons works in a pinch.

And always carry a roll of TP in your trunk. You never know.

The campgrounds are your only choice once you leave buellton or Castro area. I travel often every state we have been to have beautiful rest stops. Some let you sleep there a few hours too. Which is nice if your tired. All have clean restrooms. Great maps and areas to walk and stretch your legs. We found most in California closed.some like gaviota for a very long time. They should have a porta potty if nothing else.

SB and Goleta let homeless poop and pee wherever they want and do nothing. Lots of defenders here on Edhat too for that policy. So I’d suggest bringing a can, bucket or whatever, and then just bomb it out, or pour it. Just make sure if you pour it you’re not at freeway speed.

LINA - dead one, 100%. Fond and many others tend post inflammatory, offensive, and/or verifiably false, etc posts, which then prompt others (like myself) to dispute/disagree/call out. This in turn brings VOICE (and now Basic) out of the woodwork to answer for others and then we start the back and forth, arguing purely for the sake of arguing. This cycle is repeated over and over again. I admit, I should avoid Voice's baiting, but it's not who I am to let it go sometimes. The original racist/homophonic/inhumane/cruel/unsolicited political/ verifiably false comments that generally start this cycle are the true cause. Unfortunately, we can't (nor should we) expect the Edhat staff to be monitoring each and every comment the second it is posted. So, what to do other than delete the original offensive comment and all those that respond to it, especially mine and Voice's once we start our ridiculous dance? That's already the policy and works well, except yes..... sometimes others will see the back and forths before they're removed. To those, I say sorry, but you can always just ignore them. Not sure what else to do that would be fair to all.

087, 5:01,
My apologies. I didn't want to get involved, but am sick and tired of reading inane, untrue posts designed to cause more division, like the one "Fond of" originally posted. He not only posted a straight up untruth, but then blamed it on "wokeness". Why does he do that if not to unfairly criticize and lie about most of the people in our community? He has to make everything political, even things that don't exist. Antagonizing and divisive posts like that are what should be limited.

SACJON 454,
Exactly. Voice doesn't seem to understand that my post was in agreement with your stance - that the laws are the same in both places and are enforced or not enforced equally, depending on the circumstances. Contrary to what he was whining about.

I'd agree with a comment limit, as long as it's per article. I actually requested ED removes our comments as we got out of hand here and I take responsibility for that, my bad.

Huh, a daily comment limit -- that's a pretty good idea! I figure they'll eventually tire themselves out. Or take a hint from all the downvotes and deleted arguments.

Truly obnoxious and unrelenting on all sides. Ed, pleeeease consider a daily comment limit. These repetitive arguments from the same 3-4 users, complete with name calling and belittling, gum up Every. Single. Thread. It's folks like this that caused Noozhawk etc to get rid of comments. I hope Edhat never does the same but ugh. I would understand it at this point.

BASIC - "Lots of defenders here on Edhat too for that policy. " - Name one person here who supports your imaginary policy of allowing homeless people to crap and piss in public. Name one.

VOICE - I never said they had to be deliberately flashing someone. You missed half the sentence - "or if someone happens to report seeing them acting vulgar, just like in SF."

Once again, you cherry pick my words and take them out of context. Thing is, I can't be upset with you about it, as you've clearly demonstrated here time and time and time and time again, that you don't know any better. Your "reasoning" skills are sophomoric, if existent at all, and I feel bad for taking you to task so often. Buck up kiddo, you'll get better someday.

BASIC - join VOICE and FOND in their social experiment. Go lay cable on State street in the middle of public view and police officers and tell us what happens.

Seems most of the rest stops are closed for some reason and it is getting a little old. Arizona manages to keep theirs open.

So just when are they going to reopen the rest stops at Gaviota and Camp Roberts....this is ridiculous and it is not safe to pull over to pee...especially if you are driving alone and female...too many "bad" people out there looking for opportunities!! I make a 4 hr drive to get to SB every month and I sometimes stop out at the Costco shopping center or the Shell by In an Out Burger. I guess I know what I will buy myself for Christmas! Happy Holidays everyone..keep the faith!

Rinconer Nov 29, 2022 07:04 AM

How long has the Gaviota rest area been closed? Seems like over two years they have been making excuses, yet I pass by there frequently, and havn’t seen anyone working there at this ongoing failure there in over a year.
We pay for toilets in this rest area, but the only thing that gets flushed away is our tax dollars.

FondofSB Nov 29, 2022 10:55 AM

Rinconer: They have been closed most of that time.
And when, or if, they ever reopen you can bet that within 3 months they'll close again for indefinite periods of time!
It's CA administration at its very best!

We buy a yearly state campground/parks pass and use that in 'emergencies' when we drive between Buellton and SB and other routes along the coast where there are state parks. Easy in/out.

You can, with no problem, defecate in the middle of Union Square in S.F. , but don't dare isolate yourself in an unseen bush on a side exit of 101 to urinate : you'll get in deep trouble with the political correctness ...

Maybe getting an inkling that a lot of what they believe is false is what makes people start to act crazy and think society is collapsing.

Funny how the folks who seem to think society is collapsing are all cons. Perhaps they should base their beliefs more on facts and less on con social media claptrap.

You're welcome! I was tired of hearing his nonsense. It's sickening how people like that just make up things to whine about, and worse, make it political. Fortunately most of us see right through their ridiculousness.

LINA

"They aren't going to ticket somebody for having an emergency situation like that UNLESS the person is deliberately flashing everyone right out in the open maybe and a cop happens to be driving by, or if someone happens to report seeing them acting vulgar, just like in SF." - Thanks for acknowledging this and confirming my point. It's hilarious that VOICE thinks this was a "gotcha" moment. ESL classes are a great help bud.

"Unless" is a great word to be able to understand, voice.

Fond of - Read my post above to your buddy V to get an idea of what reality is. Your statement is completely unfounded. There are enough things in this world to complain about without having to make stuff up! You should consider serving a little truth with your wine next time you're in the mood.

VOR, People stop and go in the bushes or behind their car doors off the 101, too. I've seen them. It's obvious what they're doing even though they try to hide it. I travel that road often. Even though it may be illegal here like it is everywhere else, including SF, they still get away with it all the time here, too. CHP doesn't drive that stretch very often, but I have seen them just drive by and ignore them. They aren't going to ticket somebody for having an emergency situation like that unless the person is deliberately flashing everyone right out in the open maybe and a cop happens to be driving by, or if someone happens to report seeing them acting vulgar, just like in SF.

VOR : To the sad list you can add: "breaking into a car"! Police don't even take the complaint anymore: there are way too many per day! So, where's "the problem" SAC ?

Going over 65 MPH on the freeway is also illegal, but we can all certainly do it "with no problem". Not stopping completely before making a right turn on a red light, illegal but "no problem". Smoking cigarettes downtown SB, illegal but "no problem". Littering, illegal but "no problem". Shall I continue?

FOND - woke has nothing to do with it, but keep on trying to insult me because I dare to actually care about other human beings.

Here it is in simple simon terms: If something is ILLEGAL (as your sidekick confirmed), it can't be done with "no problem." How you and your little pal keep arguing about this is absurd. If a cop saw a person (homeless or not) take a crap in the middle of the street, they would do something. Sure, they might not issue a ticket to a crazy homeless person cause how would they pay, but they won't just stand by and allow it. THEREFORE, you can't do it "with no problem." DERP.

It's technically illegal, and carries a $50-$500 fine, it's just not enforced. https://www.arcgis.com/apps/View/index.html?appid=b6fab720912642b6aedafdb02a76d2a4

FOND - show us the law that allows public defecation in SF and we'll talk. Until then, it's just more of the "homeless people can do whatever they want" tripe.

SAC : That is "absolutely true": go to S.F., walk around and count how many people you'll see defecating and urinating in the middle of the street/place/sidewalk.
But of course for wokes: all is fine!
A glorious society!

Gaviota Beach will usually let you park on the outer side near the kiosk without paying so that you can use the restroom. Their stalls are in the parking lot.

What a shame that people cannot simply pull over and relieve themselves roadside as we did 50 yrs ago. Yes, people knew what you were doing, and understood natures' call. Now one risks registry as a sex offender! In Uruguay it is still as it was 50 yrs ago and is quite literally a relief!

El Capitan Canyon resort or their RV park may be an option, but not 100% sure those are accessible to the public.
