First SB County owned Helicopter was in 1996.
I'd been navigating the front and back country more or less successfully for more than 25 years at that point. I'm glad the helicopter was there for this person. Sounds like her injuries triggered a red flag

Basic
It is called mission creep.
When we were young, the county didn't own a helicopter, the fire dept were not "first responders" and search and rescue was a mix of trained and untrained volunteers.

This incident sounds like the "first responders" and search and rescue were very concerned or they would have carried her the 1/4 mile out and put her in an ambulance instead of calling the helicopter

Have to assume the report that she was actually unconscious because why the f- would a helicopter have to come in for a rescue otherwise? We’ve seen more and more of these the last few years. Does anyone ever remember a HELICOPTER rescue off our local trails back in the day? I don’t.
