A much better investment would have been the East Cabrillo Blvd/101 underpass. It is very dangerous and TERRIBLE for pedestrians, to say nothing about 100x more foot traffic than Butterfly Lane...

Walked through it yesterday -- there is no change to the tunnel so the art work is still there,
They redid the stairs and add a ramp on both sides -- took a long time to do and does look very expensive. If all you used was the stairs really no different.

Agree, CITIZENSB, plus the ramp is a much longer path to the tunnel than the previous stairs,BUT, this project makes the tunnel accessible now to people who could NOT take the stairs.

But how many people that are handicapped and need a ramp in lieu of stairs travel from Coast Village Road on their way to the beach. Very few I suspect.

The ramp is nice for handicap and bikes -- although you can always go down to Olive Mill which works for both bikes and handicap (nice sidewalk) to get to the beach. Not sure how it was prioritized against other projects?

The cheapest way to make it look a 3rd world s-hole would be to grafitti the outside (pending) and to line the handicap ramp with homeless/hoaders shopping carts(pending).
Its free and will happen all on its own, no tax cuts needed
