Can any Edhat readers recommend a local electrical repair person or shop?

I would like to find someone who can repair small electrical devices, such as an electric fan and a bicycle night lighting system with disintegrating cords. Thank you.

Call MarVac in Goleta and see f they have a recommendation. I think they may have changed their name to Santa Barbara Electronics and recently moved from their airport location to Old Town Goleta on Hollister (close to the 7-11). Hopefully, they are still in business.

Thank you, Babycakes, for the referral. You are correct on every count: MarVac has, indeed changed its name to Santa Barbara Electronics, and they are in the process of moving. I have gotten on their mailing list, and left them a message regarding their repair service. Thanks, again, for taking the trouble to reply to this query!

Snoodley: You are welcome. We are so lucky to have such a local business such as SB Electronics. A lot of people order their electronics online, but I try to buy local as much as possible. Back in the day (from late 1981 to late 1993) my life was Silicon Valley...I worked in high-tech electronic fabrication, manufacturing, distribution, and testing....and a couple years in "software." Nothing like an evening spent wandering around the aisles of Fry's Electronics (the original one in Palo Alto near Page Mill/El Camino) with all of the other techno-geeks. Many of us geeks were high on the weed, and we'd buy "fun stuff" that we may or may not have needed, but we h-a-d to do something with those stock options (some companies were handing options out like candy just to retain you). A co-worker friend called me to see if I wanted to move to Seattle, to which I promptly said "no way, why would I ever want to work for.....Microsoft!" She retired in her late thirties from MS.

BC thanks for the "Update", last I heard from "The Gang at SBES" was the 11/10/21 emails about the 3 days left & signup notices. The google search for their phone # came back with : 5836 Hollister Ave, Goleta, CA 93117 and still same phone (805) 681-2524. That's the old Kawi shop! Kenny'd be proud... SBES must have a different or has not change their web site http://www.sbelectronics.net/
Those guys were/are great, I used to take my UPS batteries to em, for recycle. Network cabling cheap any flavor of your liking, & actually carry the 6" power cord extension (ie. Power Strip Liberator ® Extension Cable for power bricks). Saved my but so many times coming thru with some random item.
