" enough sensible people in California to get this recall on the books and a chance for a terrible governor out of here" <- it was the arch opposite of sensible.

It was a waste, but newsome has been terrible. He was saved by the lunacy of elder and the inability of a moderate Democrat to viably enter the race.

Out on the road today, I saw a "Elder" sticker on a Cadillac
A little voice inside my head said, "Don't look back. You can never look back"

Everybody keeps going on about their "rights" and "freedoms".... again, as I've posted multiple times.... You CANNOT have a society that provides "freedoms" without a corresponding amount of "responsibility". You know how, if you're a store manager or owner, you get more money, and more leeway to do things that the line employees don't. However, you are also the one who has to stay late, come in if someone doesn't show, and ultimately, the buck stops with you. This situation is NO DIFFERENT. All these people protesting about how their "freedoms" are being violated haven't engaged in ONE BIT of social responsibility in regards to an epidemic that has literally killed hundreds of thousands of people. Its so frustrating....

And I'm not saying that Newsom is some holy grail of governance; he violated his own orders for his own personal desires, and in doing such, did a HORRIBLE job at being a leader who "leads from the front", and he should be taken to task for that. But the rest of these people are simply acting out emotionally, without comprehending the fact that as MEMBERS OF A SOCIETY, they have a SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY to inconvenience themselves for the good of the society as a whole, ergo wearing masks, social distancing, and GETTING THE DAMNED VACCINE!!!!

If y'all REALLY wanna live in a "society" where you can have all you want, yet give nothing in return, the bottom line is that the mighty and the rich will come out on top EVERY TIME. Ask yourself; is that REALLY the type of society you wanna live in?

Get over yourself and your self proclaimed "freedom", and realize that "the freedom to swing your arm ends at the tip of my nose."

And, yet, once again, I leave you with the following quote:

“Both for practical reasons and for mathematically verifiable moral reasons, authority and responsibility must be equal - else a balancing takes place as surely as current flows between points of unequal potential. To permit irresponsible authority is to sow disaster; to hold a man responsible for anything he does not control is to behave with blind idiocy. The unlimited democracies were unstable because their citizens were not responsible for the fashion in which they exerted their sovereign authority... other than through the tragic logic of history... No attempt was made to determine whether a voter was socially responsible to the extent of his literally unlimited authority. If he voted the impossible, the disastrous possible happened instead - and responsibility was then forced on him willy-nilly and destroyed both him and his foundationless temple.”

Also (once again):

" And THAT was the soft spot which destroyed what was in many ways an admirable culture... their citizens... glorified their mythology of 'rights'... and lost track of their duties. No nation, so constituted, can endure."

Please tell me, is there any other “responsibility” that forces you to inject something into your body to participate in society?

I like this part of your quote 1660, especially alongside the fact that we can’t control a virus no matter how much we want to (or blindly follow politicians who claim they can). “ To permit irresponsible authority is to sow disaster; to hold a man responsible for anything he does not control is to behave with blind idiocy.”

There are other options than public school, like private school, or home schooling and even states that don't require immunizations. Our president would like to force everyone in the US to inject themselves with something if they want to hold a job. Except of course the White House, congress, USPS, they're exempt because "Science TM"!

That ruling does not mean what you think it does. The president can not mandate a vaccine for the entire US, the office does not have that power. Would you want the president to have that much power? I know for a fact you'd be singing a very different tune if Trump were the one forcing people. So many here act like their preferred party are infallible and will forever be in control. What power you give them now you also give future politicians you may not be so enamored with.

VOICE - "I know for a fact you'd be singing a very different tune if Trump were the one forcing people." --- Is that like complaining about Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson getting more media coverage than Elder if they were egged? There's a name for that fallacy.....

VOICE - can you explain to us all how it "isn't like that at all?" How does your hypothetical claim about a future event not not suffer the same reasoning flaw as the other one?

VOICE - still waiting...... how is your claim not fallacious just as the Al and Jesse egging claim? It's really the definition of the fallacy. "I know for a fact (insert any conclusion about an unverifiable future event) if X was different."

VOICE- hahahaha what? When did Trump "force people" to get a vaccine? Also, my "example" was not mine, it was BABYCAKES who said Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson would get more media coverage than Elder if they were egged. Come on man.....

Voice of Reason Sep 14, 2021 03:44 PM
Recall Newsom Rally in Montecito

Contrary to all the false accusations of tyrant and dictator, you're right, Trump never forced anyone to do anything they didn't want. Our current prez and VP said they wouldn't take or trust a vaccine developed under Trump (they lied but many of their followers believed them) so you can rationally extrapolate how they and their followers would feel if Trump mandated it. Babycakes was 100% correct there, simply because Al and Jesse are known throughout the US, (of course they're also darlings of the MSM and wouldn't hesitate to use the opportunity for additional publicity). For you to argue what Babycakes wrote isn't what would happen is simply false, I know you know that but here you are trying to argue otherwise. Good day sir.

VOICE - "Because my example actually happened," - again, when did Donald Trump "force people" to get a vaccine, any vaccine? You said it happened, so please remind us when that was.

And re: your fallacious assumptions, well, you can keep on assuring yourself of whatever you want, but before you run away, again, understand that, despite your "mastery" of reason, you have ZERO way of proving that everyone would react in any way to an event that has not happened.

Finally, Babycakes was not "100% correct" about a scenario that, again, HAS NOT HAPPENED. He didn't didn't just say Al and Jesse would get more publicity and there would be more outraged for a hypothetical, yet elaborate and specific future event involving white women in monkey masks, he said Elder received "not a peep" and the media "ignored" the actual event, that was somehow plastered all over the news.

That's all, I'm done. Your disingenuous claims and "rebuttals" have finally exhausted me.

Elder thinks women and people of color complain too much. What century does THAT leave him in? None and I mean NONE of the challenger candidates have the skillset for governorship. For better or worse, Gavin Newsom should stay--and this ridiculous recall procedure needs an overhaul.

Same. I'm a Democrat, I voted for Newsom, I don't particularly like him, I never have even back from the Plumpjack days in SF (where I lived at the time).

However, this recall is a massive waste of time energy and money. We have elections at scheduled times. Just vote when the damn election is scheduled like we always have.

I really really REALLY want Newsom recalled for so many reasons but, when it comes to Covid, I am concerned because I don't want to see us end up like Texas and Florida, with high cases b/c everyone takes off their mask even if unvaccinated or refuses vaccines, etc. Insight on this from reasonable folks would help me to decide today.

Florida and Texas aren’t any worse than neighboring blue states, it only seems that way with how the media reports it (look at those dumb red states while ignoring the blue states next door also spiking). It is a complete illusion that all the mandates had anything but a nominal impact on the virus spread. Oregon had stricter mandates than CA and they just had a big spike, we went full on last fall and still had a big spike. No one can point to data over the past 18 months and say this state did better than that state because they had stricter mandates.

Voice of Reason Sep 14, 2021 08:36 AM

Andrea, the vaccines work. If you have the vaccine, you don't need to worry about the unvaccinated. What many here fail to realize, is if you acquiesce now to the government taking this much control over your life, taking control of your medical decisions, simply because you agree with them, next time you may not agree with them but have already seceded control. Many vocal posters here would be screaming, at the top of their lungs, if it was Trump mandate the exact same vaccine. Don't fall into their hypocrisy trap, trust yourself, trust the vaccine, and don't allow the government to take even more control of your life, your business, your children.

More VOR misinformation. Plus geographically challenged too. Because Florida is surrounded by Georgia and Alabama, which are controlled by Republican Governors and Legislatures. Do you really want to go on record as calling them Blue States?

BTW, Statistica shows the states with the current highest rates of infections and Oregon isn't among them....https://www.statista.com/statistics/1109004/coronavirus-covid19-cases-rate-us-americans-by-state/

VOICE - " If you have the vaccine, you don't need to worry about the unvaccinated" - WRONG. As you've pointed out many times, the vaccines aren't 100% effective. People are still being hospitalized and dying, albeit vaccinated, so you DO still need to be aware and concerned about the unvaccinated spreading to you.. Further, if you are vaccinated and are immunocompromised, you very much need to worry about being infected.

Stop spreading verifiable lies.

Today the rightwing losers will lose again and they'll cry and scream and whine and complain that they're victims... poor babies. But here's the thing: If you're not making tons of money right now, you're never, ever, ever going to... And that's 100% on you. Its 100% due to your choices, your doings and your life. So if we're in the best economy in history, with the most opportunities to become fabulously wealthy, then why are you so miserable? Because you are simply not the person you think you are...that's why. FYI - Life is what happens while you're complaining to your spouse about politicians and how they're the ones holding you back... Doers do, complainers complain and loser lose... Which one are you VOR, Chip and OGSB? We know. But do you?

That is a disgusting comment SBO and a slap in the face to the millions of working class who had their livelihoods snuffed out due to our governor's actions the past 18 months. It's an insult to those that came into the pandemic with little to no savings and had their job shut down as "non essential", and you say it's 100% on them? To the millions of kids who are now even further behind in school and may never catch up, their earning power is forever reduced because of our governors poor decisions, it's 100% due to their or their or their parents choices? If you think Chip, OGSB and I comment here because we don't make enough money you're sadly mistaken and haven't actually listed to a word we've said. You are simply not a good human being.

Oh please. You are fooling no one with your fake outrage VOR. Well, that's not exactly true, you are definitely fooling yourself. You can call me names, blame me or Newsom or some other Pol for your own misery, but its not going to change the reality. VOR, you hate government and yet the government has been literally supporting all the people claim to care about.

Rational people understand that the Pandemic was and is a no win situation, it's simply a calculation trading off lives for economic vitality and letting kids school in person.

More dead people equals fewer shut downs and more kids in school. Fewer deaths equals more shut downs and fewer kids in school. And by the way, kids are now dying from Delta.

It's a terrible situation, people who are trying to burn down the government and our Democracy as a response are only making it worse.

The one that Newsom and CA was warned about as being antiquated and ripe for fraud and failure? https://www.kcra.com/article/edd-backlog-and-fraud-timeline-how-we-got-here-california-unemployment-jobless-covid-19/35312619#

You're correct on the deaths, but that would mean our NPI's saved lives and the jury is still out on that when adjusting for age and counting all the deaths as a result of NPI's as evidenced by the states and countries around that world that didn't take such extreme measures.
