That reminds me of a fellow I spoke with who had come here from Eastern Europe, and was learning English. As part of his graduation from the class he had to give a talk to the group. His assigned subject was "Why do we drive on the side of the road that we do?"
Being a physicist, he explained that driving on the underside of the road took too much energy, and the vehicles would be very expensive.
