Local elected and community leaders are organizing a vigil for Montecito following Tuesday morning’s devastating flood event. The vigil will take place Sunday, January 14th from 5-6pm at the Courthouse Sunken Gardens, 1100 Anacapa Street, Santa Barbara.

“My heart aches with the pain and destruction caused by the disaster in Montecito. Our community has been through so much over the past two months with the upheaval and damage of the Thomas Fire and now the unbearable pain that comes with the loss of life,” said First District Supervisor Das Williams, who represents Montecito. “We are blessed with a loving and supportive community that comes together in times of peril and that community is so desperately needed at a time like this.”

Montecito’s elected representatives are working together to organize the vigil. The elected officials participating include: Santa Barbara County First District Supervisor Das Williams, Santa Barbara Mayor Cathy Murillo, Santa Barbara Fourth District City Council Member Kristen Sneddon, Assemblymember Monique Limón, State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson, and Congressmember Salud Carbajal. Members of the faith community will also be present and counseling services will be provided by the Santa Barbara County Emergency Operations Center and Hospice of Santa Barbara.

Montecito Vigil to be Held on Sunday

There has definitely been talk of more train service but that was for the work week. You definitely need to contact Amtrak for times and availabilities.

We watched Amtrak No. 11 from Seattle come through last night at about 8:30 pm. The reason they were 2 hours late is that they were adding engines and cars for use through our corridor while the 101 is closed. This train was huge with 5 engines and 18 cars. Hopes were for more cars on this morning's first north bound (1761) but they may have gotten in too late to make up a new Surfliner.

Thanks! It'seen reported they don't have enough cars for the extra commuters on the train skready, so maybe not enough for an eXtra train. But it's worth a try.

I do realize Amtrak is now running between Santa Barbara and Carpinteria, but the last train south goes through Santa Barbara during the service. Is there a way to get extra service on such short notice so we can attend?

I would assume that they are already running as many trains as humanly possible, considering it is one of the only ways to get between SB & Ventura. If they were able to do more, i'm sure they would, vigil or not.

That's a great idea. Thank you! It's reported elsewhere they don't have enough cars for the extra ridership, so maybe not enough for an extra train either, but it's worth a try.
