Wonder if there are any other pictures of it? I really want to know if this is a taxidermy or not. Hoping it is because it’s just so sad if it really did die in the storm. Well ,it’s sad either way

Loss of wildlife is a rational argument against Prescribed Burn policy. Who knows how many other animals were killed, and how many will die due to loss of habitat and pray animals. Tragic indeed.

I agree it is sad considering cowardly trophy hunters he probably was taking a dump when he died.

Rigor mortis could easily explain the position of the legs. As to no other debris around, how about if the bear was still alive when it hit the beach and either tried to walk and later died, or, was DOA and wound up being deposited here after rolling around in the surf. Armchair taxidermy experts don't necessarily have all the answers on this one.

Creepy to think of someone having it in the house. If it's a grizzly it has to be stuffed, no more left in California.

First priority: R I P bear. FWIW, a mounted bear would have most likely have its mouth open in a snarl.

Its a black bear by the rounded snout. Grizzlys have very pronounced blunt snout and block head. Most likely taxi, its odd position certainly a modification by flood. After fires, unlikey anything like that in the flood plain if it existed at all on the front side.

Head does not look like Grizzly. Black bear (what we also call Brown bear.)

Black Bears, Ursa americanos are not called Brown bears, Ursa arctos. They are 2 completely different species. Grizzly bears are a Brown bear sub species, Ursa arctos ssp, therefore Grizzly bears are Brown bears.

Too funny. When I first saw this same photo couple days ago I thought, "Hmm. Isn't that a Grizzly bear?" It didn't really register, though, and I thought this poor bear had been caught in the flood. I love all the comments here. Do people around here actually have large taxidermied trophy kills? I thought that was only for the yahoos in Wyoming and Idaho, etc.

And, I LOVE the "graphic image" warning, but they put the dead bear image in the feature picture for the article.... can't look away...

Rob Lowe did not take this picture. He posted it yesterday on his Instagram but it was on another users social media account 3 days ago. Looks fake to me.

Rob doesn't take pics, he poses for them fearlessly battling wildfires with a garden hose in a mandatory evacuation area whilst the hired help whips up some delish spaghetti . It's all yours R..& R....

Completely FAKE..IF this were real, the bear would be surrounded by thousands of pieces of debris that washed out with it.

I'm sure there would also be lots of flies and seagulls hanging around. I think the rainbow is a nice touch, though.

My gosh, we have some sharp eyed photo analysts here. Let's wait until someone can eyeball it up close.

So the title isn't wrong, technically it is a dead bear. Just dead a long time ago.

Lets be real here, that thing is a taxidermy bear. It is in way to stiff, and good of a condition to be actually from the mountains and taken out.

Grizzly, longer claws and dished face profile. So obviously not from around here.

How will they know for sure if it's a real bear or a stuffed bear? Can anyone tell if it's a grizzly or black bear?

Hmm. When they do an autopsy it will either have fake stuffing or real organs. That ought to be enough to make the call.

Looks like a taxidermy museum bear. Too stiff for rigor mortis.???

Agreed, taxidermist at work, probably washed out of someone's house.
