There was a meeting this past week to discuss changes to the existing Center for Lifelong Learning at SBCC. Could someone who attended the meeting provide details as to the proposed changes and when they will take effect?

SBCC CLL Meeting Feedback?

A lot of information was shared and hopefully they will have another, more publicized meeting explaining the changes. Not much will change with the CLL, but the big change is that SBCC is bringing back state-funded Adult Ed classes. This will help a lot of the disenfranchised people (mostly seniors) who have not been able to afford the fees for the CLL classes. The umbrella program will be called the School of Extended Learning, including all the non-credit classes under the umbrella. It will start as soon as fall, but the full program will take time to roll out. President Dr. Beebe is genuinely supportive of Adult Ed and (thankfully) recognizes the benefits to the community that a good Adult Ed program will bring.

Thanks for the feedback--I'm not understanding how "nothing much will change with CLL" with the high fees for classes and helping disenfranchised seniors/others who can't afford the fees will be reconciled. Did they say the same compliment of classes will be offered, but at a lower cost? I have heard rumors that the classes will be free, but don't understand how expensive programs like jewelry and pottery can afford to continue if they are free...

Seems reasonable to expect the staff of the CLL to fill the community in on any significant changes, namely Executive Director Andrew Harper, Associate Director Jeanette Chan, and Associate Director Kendall Harris.

Totally agree. There are lots of rumors, but little concrete information.
