Santa Barbara is getting a bit classier as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly purchased a home in the Santa Barbara area.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who recently left the royal family, bought a private family home in Santa Barbara in early June with plans to put down permanent roots and bring up their one-year-old son Archie, according to Page Six.

“This is the first home either of them has ever owned. It has been a very special time for them as a couple and as a family — to have complete privacy for six weeks since they moved in. They intend to put down their roots in this house and the quiet community, which has considerable privacy. This is where they want to bring Archie up, where they hope he can have as normal a life as possible," according to a source for Page Six

It's unclear what neighborhood the couple will be living, although many speculate it's most likely in Montecito where other celebrities such as Oprah and Ellen DeGeneres, have significant privacy.

Kwitcherbitchin. They are living authentically & with remarkably positive intention, and support a number of worthy global causes. I bet they'll be a fun and kind addition to the community.

I am envisioning a ZOOM moment with Ellen, Oprah, Steve Martin, Brad Pitt as a open house party or maybe a Mask Ball? No problem with social distancing at 18,000 feet? I assume Archie will be Home Schooled although Montecito Union , which has always been pod-size in each grade with incredible resources for each child. Great school. And we now have one more house to be saved first in the next (God no !) wild fire/mud event. Hopefully they brought their own fire company, police force, secret service as well, since ours might be abusive to all -race sleazy paparazzi sneaking around, trespassing, planning home envasions, taking shots as well. Why couldn't we have kept this a best kept secret like the "old days" out of respect for their property taxes to be paid? We have put them at more risk, we "bozos" with all this imagineering and jealousy! Root word "lousy" for them. Waiting for the Zoom code. Please don't change street names to include "Royal Pain Way".

$14 million price tag will generate $140,000 a year in property taxes, with approx $3000 increases every year thereafter - enough to pay for at least one more local government employee. Never forget class envy does come with a premium price tag attached to it too. And that is just the start of maintaining that size of a property. Crazy, but it is a choice some can and do make. Be glad for the God of Small Favors that lets us also co-exist in this town.

Edhat is not unique in their comments section, the feeling is mutual worldwide :) check out this article with additional pictures from the DailyMailUK...https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8621941/Prince-Harry-Meghan-Markles-paid-14-7M-sprawling-Santa-Barbara-estate.html

With respect, the article is wrong. Their presence her does not make us "classier" unless one is speaking of increasing the distinctions between ordinary people and "royals." Please remember these two did not earn their wealth or their ability to buy multi-million dollar places. The royal families stole this from the people over ages. Venerating such theft just because it is "tradition" makes one believe that democracy is never really going to work.

Most of us would all love to stop climate change but very few of us have given up our cars or traveling by plane. This couple has the same problem, but to a much greater degree. I don't fault them for that.

And got a deal, paid 11.1M but it was valued at more than that. Who doesn't want a thrifty neighbor? How much space do you need for 3 people, a house staff, and a security team? Maybe is not quite so lavish when you think of it in those terms.

Can’t we show our better side and leave these people alone? For God sakes all they did was buy a home for themselves and their family. Leave them alone and let them live their lives. Close your mouths.

They're fine, but I would hope that Santa Barbara would put out the "Unwelcome" mat for the paparazzi that are sure to follow. I'd rather have celebs than them any day. Most of the celebs that live around here just want to lay low and be left alone, and most of us locals are more than happy to oblige. Tabloid photogs should GTFO and leave our town alone.

Meghan, Harry & Archie, welcome to the "hood". SB is a fabulous place to call home. Here's a couple of tips from a true local....
Be kind, be patient, wait your turn (just like the rest of us), don't drive to fast, please don't honk your horn, if you expect "special" treatment you will be disappointed and I don't want you to be disappointed, I like to think that the "rich & famous" live here because here we are far less interested in how much you're worth, what you do for a living or who your parents are as we are really only interested in who you are, as people..so be a good neighbor, care about your fellows and someday, maybe even tomorrow we will become friends.

Welcome to town, we are a refuge for other low grade Illuminati types. Can't wait to hear how they got booted out of the family jewels. His mom was a candle in the wind. They should be weary, look what we did to other ex pats from the not so great Britannia. John Cleese, Douglas Adams, to name a few recent victims. Hope Archie gets old enough here to listen to Montecito's Greatest all time band R.K.L !!!
Remember what growing up here did to Michael Douglas kid Cameron!!

Why are these mean spirited people posting negative comments about this? I have never heard any negative things about them, and they have done a lot of work for charities and good causes. Does it make you feel better to (anonymously) tear other people down? How sad for you.

nobody will even notice their presence unless they are trying to... aside from people they share property boundaries with who will have drones buzzing all over the place with telescopic night vision cameras.

Perhaps my post was poorly worded and ambiguous. I meant to (sarcastically)suggest that only the neighbors would notice the presence of Harry due to the presence of drones which would be controlled by the media/tabloid types.

Ca di Sopra - 14,000 square feet so that ticks some of the boxes - secluded lane, on a hill top. UK paper reported the $8 million price tag - which keeps changing in various other reports. $8 million to $14 million - but why not throw out false clues, when the goal is to be left alone?

CMKR -local politics suck; but the rest of the package can still work out okay. Hope you keep bringing your own fresh perspective to these pages. You are more welcomed than you might realize.
