Update by Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office

We have received several reports of low flying helicopters over Carpinteria and Montecito- they are contract surveyors for Southern California Edison.

Reported by edhat readers

  • There has been a helicopter flying really low over Carpinteria all morning, what's up?

  • Helicopter over Via Real in Carpinteria. I don't think it's a Sheriff or rescue copter, so maybe some work is being done.

The flight path shows as mostly over Montecito - and they sure gave us a first class buzz job today. It is one of those NOTAR (no tail rotor) helicopters, so kind of unusual (but not nearly as unusual as a Kaman K_Max). There is one of the latter being used for firefighting around here - seen at Santa Ynez Airport recently.

Should have made it more clear in my post but I thing I replied to the wrong message. It's SCE doing line surveys.

DOOP... up or down voting was always supposed to be the province of paid subscribers but somehow it was never implemented leading to gangs of (politically) like minded readers voting in concert and disrupting the community just for the sake of being disruptive.

So now paid subscribers are looked on as elites...it's only about 15 cents per day to subscribe, well worth it.

Hi Minibeast and readers,
We're currently implementing upgrades to the website and fixing some glitches that will benefit our paid subscribers. This is still a work in progress and all updates will be posted in an article when completed. In the meantime, email us at [email protected] with any questions.
Thanks,

Oceandrew, perhaps you are finally witnessing disagreement with the standard local "progressive" orthodoxy, finally being allowed to emerge from under the local cancel culture repression. (See Independent and Noozhawk elimination of public comments) Stick around and listen - it is refreshing to finally read some degree of balance in local discussions. Best way to keep a finger on the pulse of this community - encouraging the full range of ideological responses, within community guidelines.

We received notices via email and mail from SCE that they were doing line inspections via helicopter and drone. So either the OP doesnt have a SCE account and doesnt pay for their own electricity, or they dont read their mail.

Maybe it's Pat Nesbitt making a statement after he was denied a permit for a helicopter pad on his Summerland property!
