A 2.8 magnitude earthquake struck Carpinteria on Sunday evening.

Residents reported feeling a jolt around 6:18 p.m. and it was quickly confirmed to be an earthquake.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) reports the quake struck 2.5 miles east-southeast of Carpinteria's city center. 

There was no reported damage, although one resident stated their salt shaker moved slightly to the left.

2.8 Magnitude Earthquake in Carpinteria

Small but close. It was a quick jolt but what surprised us more was the rumble sound right before it. That was our first time hearing an earthquake.
