Santa Barbara-based author Irma Hersel is sharing her bilingual children’s book collection with local families, educators, and community programs.
Her first book, Where Nopalitos Grow, was recently added to the Santa Barbara Public Library and celebrates family, heritage, and language through the story of a young boy named Roberto. The book is written primarily in English with Spanish words woven throughout, along with a helpful Spanish glossary in the back.
Her newest release, Where Chocolate Grows: A Sweet Journey of Curiosity and Discovery, blends geography, culture, and food science — introducing young readers to where cacao grows around the world and how chocolate is made.
Both books support:
• Dual-language learners
• English Learners
• Cultural literacy
• Literacy + STEM connections
Irma is currently connecting with local schools and families to help spread the word about inclusive, engaging classroom resources.
