KBR Services LLC, a government contractor that provides logistics and operational support for the U.S. military, plans to lay off 60 workers, according to a state filing.

The layoffs are planned at a worksite inside Fort Irwin’s National Training Center, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act filing.

The WARN notice was filed on March 6, 2026, and lists May 6, 2026 as the effective date for the job cuts.

Under the WARN Act, employers must provide at least 60 days’ notice before carrying out a mass layoff, plant closure, or major relocation. The law requires companies to notify affected workers as well as state and local officials so employees have time to prepare for job loss, seek new employment, or explore training opportunities.

The filing lists the worksite as Building 896 on Langford Lake Road at Fort Irwin in San Bernardino County. The address is located within the Fort Irwin National Training Center, a major U.S. Army installation in California’s Mojave Desert where units conduct large-scale training exercises and readiness operations.

The WARN notice initially listed 758 employees to be laid off, but a clarification from the company stated the accurate number is 60 employees.

The majority of the layoffs are expected to affect 35 tactical vehicle mechanics, 15 lead mechanics and nine warehouse workers, according to a state filing.

“KBR issued a WARN notice on March 6, 2026, in compliance with federal and California WARN Act requirements, to notify employees that approximately 60 positions are expected to be eliminated on or about May 5, 2026. The notice was provided to ensure employees, union representatives and state and local officials received the required 60 days’ advance notice of potential workforce reductions,” a KBR representative stated to edhat. “At the time the notice was issued, specific impacted positions had not yet been finalized. To remain fully compliant with the WARN Act, KBR provided notice to the relevant employee population.”
