The recent warm weather is bringing snakes out of their winter hibernation, including venomous rattlesnakes. Santa Barbara residents now have an easy and humane solution if they find a rattlesnake in their yard.

Central Coast Snake Services is now offering free removal and relocation of rattlesnakes from yards in Goleta, Santa Barbara, Montecito, and Carpinteria, expanding their service area to include all of Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties.

Residents should text or call the 24-hour snake hotline at (805) 401-0811 if they need assistance. A photo of the snake is required to positively identify it as a rattlesnake.

Owned by Dr. Emily Taylor, a Cal Poly professor with over 25 years of experience studying rattlesnakes, Central Coast Snake Services is a professional service with the mission of helping people on the Central Coast coexist peacefully and safely with snakes. In addition to free snake identification and rattlesnake removal and relocation, the service also provides property consultations, rattlesnake exclusion fencing, and snake safety training courses.

“We are excited to finally offer Santa Barbara area residents a sustainable solution when it comes to rattlesnakes that visit their yards. Rattlesnakes are important members of our ecological communities. If you call Santa Barbara County Animal Services, their policy is to kill the rattlesnake. Instead, we relocate rattlesnakes into nearby wild areas, following evidence-based practices.” –Dr. Emily Taylor
